Over 80% of the education workforce in the United States is White, including in cities where students of color make up the majority of the population enrolled. Bottom line: this must change.
The Diversity Design Challenge aims to bring together talented professionals to tackle the critical issue of diversity in Washington D.C.'s education sector. Working in teams, participants will have the opportunity to create innovative solutions to one of the most pressing problems in K-12 education, and present their work to a panel of expert local education leaders.
Kickoff Session: May 14, 2015 |3:00 pm - 6:00 pm
Design Day: May 15, 2015 | 8:00 am - 4:30 pm
Each team will present their work to an expert panel that includes:
- Jacqueline Greer (Executive Director, Urban Teacher Center).
- Jennifer Niles (Deputy Mayor for Education)
- Nadya Chinoy Dabby (Assistant Deputy Secretary for Innovation and Improvement, Department of Education)
- Rashida Lawson (Teacher, KIPP College Preparatory)
- Robert Simmons (Chief Innovation Officer, DCPS)
