Adult Literacy Math Instructor (P/T)
Reporting Supervisor: Director of Programs
Work week/ hours: Varies with normal hours being between 9:00am and 5:00pm.
Job Summary: The Part-time Instructor is responsible for developing and teaching lessons in Reading, Writing, and Math to adult learners in the program. Must be able to create lesson plans that include real-life contextual learning experiences and be able to manage learners at varied academic levels. Must also be able to integrate the use of technology into the lessons, as well as utilize varied curriculum resources.
Position Qualifications:
Desired Education: Master's degree in education or related field with, at least two years of experience teaching in a non-traditional educational setting working with adult learners.
Minimum
Experience required: Bachelor's degree in education or related field with at least four years experience in the instruction of high school students or adult learners in a non-traditional educational setting.
Desired: Excellent oral and written communication skills; working knowledge of Windows applications; strong leadership abilities; organized, self-directed with a comprehensive knowledge of educational and social work counseling principles.
Specific Job Duties:
Effectively integrate the CASAS competencies, student goals and objectives into lesson plans.
Develop lesson plans, using curricula that incorporates, "authentic" real-life contexts that are responsive to the needs, goals, and interests of adult students in their roles as workers, family members, members of the community, and lifelong learners.
Utilize curricula that reflect the diverse educational, cultural, and linguistic backgrounds of the students served.
Utilize a variety of tools and technology (eg. audio-visual, computers, video, etc.) to support classroom instruction and learning.
Assist in the development and implementation of student Individualized Service Plan (ISP) that incorporates specific, measureable, behavioral objectives and timeframes.
Essential Skills and Responsibilities:
Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
Contributes to a positive work milieu by effectively communicating with co-workers, supervisors and administrators in regards to any issue of concern relevant to job responsibilities and the agency.
Ability to keep all participant data confidential.
4. Complete all job duties in a prompt, accurate, and thorough manner.
5. Punctual, demonstrates dependable and consistent attendance according to work schedule.
6. Maintain a clean and well-groomed appearance.
7. Able to work independently when required.
8. Maintains an objective, professional relationship with participants and staff at all times.
9. Work collaboratively with the multi-disciplinary treatment team and actively participates in treatment planning meetings when required.
10. Attend all program meetings and trainings as required and/or scheduled.
11. Productively participate in weekly supervision.
12. Maintain professional and respectful liaison with relevant community agencies, facility management, and community members.
13. Perform all other duties as assigned by the Manager of Adult Literacy Programs or senior staff as needed.
