One Step Closer: Finding the Fun in Math Tutoring Company is pleased to enclose a Request for Proposals (RFP) for One Step Closer: Summer Externship Program (SEP). The Summer Externship Program (SEP), offers District of Columbia (DC) youth ages 14-17 (grades 9th-11th) the opportunity to work with local organizations in the fields of (STEM, Hospitality, Arts, Childcare, Law, Communications, and Business) for four weeks this summer as of Monday, July 6, 2015 - Monday, August 3, 2015. The apprentice will report to each designated site 4 days a week (Monday-Thursday; 9am-1pm). Saturday's will consist of workshops and community service with SEP coordinators. During the closing of the program, the apprentices will present a presentation of what they learned. We welcome and highly encouraged each host employer to engage at this closing ceremony. We are asking you to partner with us in providing opportunities for our youth to work with your organization(s) this summer:
- As a traditional worksite, the SEP provides an opportunity for you to bolster your staff during the busy summer month, tackle projects you might otherwise put off and provide your staff with supervisory experience, while helping D.C resident teens gain valuable work and learning experience.
- SEP provides all youth wages and an SEP team coordinator who will monitor youths' experience, conduct weekly career-readiness workshops and provide support to the teens and their worksite supervisor.
If you would like to host one or more young person(s) at your workplace as a traditional worksite, please respond to this email and we will send you a SEP Worksite Application and a M.O.U (Memorandum of Understanding). This will be the first year One Step Closer: Finding the Fun in Math will start a pilot summer program. Since our inception in June 2012, we have motivated and inspired many students across the DMV area and are striving to reach more. Our program has provided efficient tutoring services and additional pilot programs [college tours, college scholarships, community service opportunities, college care packages, and mentoring] to mold each student and adult with the gifts and resources that each one need.
We believe that everyone has the potential to succeed in math and this program is designed to provide maximum results through our motto: Mathematics Through Mentorship. In whichever capacity you choose, we encourage your participation in this year's One Step Closer: Summer Externship Program. An agreement to this email is due Thursday, April 30, 2015 and the completed MOU and Worksite application is needed by Monday, May 4, 2015. Worksites will be selected based on demonstrated quality of the site and youth interest. Applicants will be notified by email as to their status of acceptance. I am happy to answer your questions and provide guidance to you as you complete your application. If you have questions or would like to set up an appointment, please call me at 202-538-5297 or email felicia.onestepcloser@gmail.com or Natasha Ettienne at natashaettienne@yahoo.com
I look forward to working with you this summer.
Sincerely,
CEO/Founder
