[YEP-DC] Volunteer Posting: Sponsor a Cap City 10th Grader for Passage Portfolio

Capital City PCS is looking for volunteers to help mentor a student through the  10th Grade Passage Portfolio process at Capital City PCS.

The 10th grade portfolio includes work samples from all academic courses and is accompanied by a reflective essay where students reflect on their strengths and stretches academically and set future goals. Students present their work to a panel of teachers, administrators and community members in June prior to their promotion to the 11th grade.

We need your help in order to best support our students. Are you able to mentor a student? If you are unable to mentor, it's quite alright, but please forward this email to folks in your network who you believe will be able to mentor or someone with a network (or listserv) who can recruit folks to do so.

Sponsor's Role

  • Help your student revise their essay.
  • Help your student prepare a PowerPoint for their presentation.
  • Work with your student on their public speaking skills.
  • Attend your student's panel presentation.

Time Commitment

  • Introductory meeting to meet your student and learn about the portfolio process.
  • One in-person meeting per week at Capital City for 30-60 minutes beginning May 6 until June 12. Ideal times are before school, during lunch or after school. After the initial meeting, you and your student can determine which times are mutually convenient.
  • Communication via email, phone or text (for reviewing and editing documents and supporting their presentations).
  • Attending your student's panel presentation to serve as a panelist and for moral support. We will aim to match the presentation with your schedule.

Thank you for considering this opportunity!

If you're interested please email Dr. Katryna Andrusik at  kandrusik@ccpcs.org with your name, email, phone number and career for matching purposes.
