Education Pioneers in Washington, DC is seeking a motivated and optimistic undergraduate intern to support our Graduate School Fellowship program for summer 2015. Program Overview

The Education Pioneers Summer Internship hosts talented and motivated undergraduate students in order to enable them to gain first-hand experience working for a rapidly growing and successful national nonprofit. Interns will be exposed to the many facets of Education Pioneers, work closely with sites or national teams during our summer training program, have the opportunity to attend the numerous networking and professional development events, and work on meaningful summer projects.  In addition, interns will have access to leaders in the field who share similar interests and serve as a thought partner throughout their job search process after graduation. Interns will also have exposure and networking opportunities with the multiple Partner organizations affiliated with Education Pioneers.

The Graduate School Fellowship, Education Pioneers' flagship program, matches emerging leaders from premier graduate programs in business, education, law and policy with education-focused partners for intensive summer or full-year consultancies focused on initiatives such as talent recruitment, program design, and strategic planning. With the Fellowship commencing in June 2015, Interns will have the opportunity to play critical roles in assisting with workshop execution and providing logistical support for a small but impactful regional team.

 

DC METRO AREA INTERN RESPONSIBILITIES

As part of the DC Metro Area team, Interns will support the DC Metro Area Director and Program Associate in planning and executing Graduate School Fellowship events and programs. The Intern will report to the Program Associate.

 

Primary Projects Include:

                Project Management

·         Coordinate logistics for summer workshops and networking receptions. This includes: managing relationships with vendors, caterers, and venues, coordinating event budgets, space management and tracking event data (attendance, outcomes, expenses, etc.) (Attendance to all workshops will be mandatory.)

·         Assist in collecting, compiling, organizing, and analyzing survey data to achieve clearly defined analytical objectives

·         Take a proactive approach on special projects to improve efficiency and assist the team in accomplishing its goals

Information Management

·         Manage Salesforce database and other information systems in order to support the team in leveraging the capabilities of these systems to meet critical program objective

Research and Communications

·         Develop content and manage distribution for national and local communications to our Fellows and alumni network

·         Assist with other projects as required

 

Experience & Qualifications

Education Pioneers seeks talented, high-achieving undergraduate students from all disciplines who are interested in applying analytical, project management and problem-solving skills to make an immediate impact and explore possible careers in urban education reform. Candidates must be able to commit to between 10-12 weeks of work, and are expected to work 20-25 hours per week.

·         Matriculation in an undergraduate degree program

·         A track record of excellence and success in an academic and professional setting, including a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.0

·         Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint

·         Proven problem-solving and analytical skills with an acute attention to detail

·         Strong project management and organizational skills, with experience in event planning, data management, and marketing

·         Excellent capacity to independently function as part of a team through self-motivation

·         Strong work ethic, high level of integrity, & track record of consistently meeting deadlines

·         Able to learn new systems and processes quickly and use them effectively to complete work

·         Some roles may require experience with: research/data management, event planning, recruitment, &/or marketing/PR

·         To be successful in this role, Interns must have reliable access to transportation, a phone, email account, laptop with MS Office applications (Excel, PowerPoint, Word), and an internet connection.

·         Legally authorized to work in the US and will not require sponsorship

·         Exceptional interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills

·         A strong commitment to the mission of Education Pioneers and its core values of courage, optimism, collaboration,

·         and action

·         An interest in education reform and the communities we serve

·         A high level of self-awareness and commitment to personal growth, including a keen desire to work with and learn from others with diverse backgrounds and perspectives

 

Compensation

Education Pioneers' Summer Interns will make $9.00 per hour. Interns are expected work between 20-25 hours per week.

 

Residency

Interns must live in the DC Metro area during the internship.

 

Duration

Internship start dates are flexible but the ideal start date for a qualified candidate will be June 1, 2015. The projected end date is August 14th, 2015.
