[YEP-DC] Volunteer Opportunity - After School Tutoring

Make a difference in a child's life by tutoring with Scholar's Lab, an after school academic support program!

The YWCA National Capital Area and Two Rivers Middle School are looking for dedicated, patient, and creative volunteers to work with small groups of students ages 10-13 for the 2013-2014 school year!  These tutoring groups will meet Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays from 4:15-5:30 PM on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays, although volunteers need not be available for all three to apply. 

Duties: You will... 

  • ·         Use standardized test data to determine areas of need
  • ·         Work with Two Rivers teachers to help develop lessons for your tutoring sessions in Math, Reading, and Writing
  • ·         Provide a supportive, encouraging, and challenging environment for youth ages 10-13
  • ·         Tutor or facilitate activities for small groups of up to 5 students
  • ·         Communicate regularly with your students' teachers to provide progress report.

Requirements: You must... 

  • ·         Be at least 18 years of age
  • ·         Pass a background check
  • ·         Have Excellent interpersonal skills
  • ·         Be Organized, reliable, and punctual
  • ·         Be Patient and sensitive to students' needs

Training will be provided to all volunteers, so while prior experience tutoring or teaching is preferred, it is not necessary.
