· Code reasons for students' absences and late arrivals and maintain files of parent documentation.
· Communicate discipline information with guardians via postal mail.
· Enter truancy information and provide truancy reports to school staff and guardians.
· Communicate student attendance matters to guardians and school staff via phone, electronic and postal mail.
· Routinely run attendance and discipline reports to review for data quality.
· Work with school staff to correct any data discrepancies that our found in quality reviews.
Minimum Qualifications
The position requires strong skills in online database software and data collection techniques, as well as intermediate spreadsheet software skills. The successful candidate must be able to work in a very busy interactive environment with frequent interruptions and to perform tasks accurately and quickly. Additional qualifications include:
· A high school diploma
· Strong attention to detail
· Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word and online databases
· File maintenance, copier, fax machine, and other office skills
· Familiarity or experience with school processes around enrollment, attendance and discipline data
· Experience working in a high-demand environment, managing multiple projects with deadlines simultaneously and producing expected results for each
· Ability to analyze and interpret data and provide summaries to various audiences
Preferred Qualifications
· Associate's degree
· Experience with Pearson's PowerSchool or similar online student information system
· Administrative support experience in middle school or high school
· Experience with secondary school reporting

The Maya Angelou Public Charter Schools' (MAPCS) middle school campus in Washington, D.C. is seeking an In School Suspension Coordinator (ISSC) to work at our middle school for the 2013-2014 school year.

- Maintain an environment where students are held to high standards of behavior and are safe
- Discipline students in a fair and consistent manner, using school approved procedures
- Establish a professional rapport with students that earns their respect

- Communicate regularly with parents, seeking their support and advice, so as to create a cooperative relationship to support the child in the school

Minimum Qualifications
- A bachelor's degree or higher

- Great people skills including a proven ability to use de-escalation techniques
- Patience and composure when dealing with difficult behavior
- Experience working with students from urban environments
- Experience working with emotionally challenged youth

Preferred Qualifications

The Office of Postsecondary Success maintains responsibility for over 450 graduates of Maya Angelou Public Charter High School who are considered Alumni. In addition, the Office of Postsecondary Success provides pre-college support to over 200 9th -12th graders in the form of pre-college curriculum, college preparation advising, summer opportunities, internships, and college exposure experiences. The overarching role of the Program Assistant is to assist with ensuring the effectiveness of all pre-college and alumni services. From managing small details to contributing to the larger vision, the Program Assistant will play a vital role in improving infrastructure, increasing efficiency in the delivery of services, and providing evidence-based solutions to the challenges of this work.
