[YEP-DC] Job Opportunity: Special Education One on One Aides Needed at CAPCS

The Dorothy I. Height Community Academy Public Charter School (CAPCS) serves children from pre-kindergarten through 5th grade, we have three physical campuses and one virtual campus. General Summary:

The One-on-One Aide assists a highly qualified teacher by providing on-going academic, social and/or behavioral programming for an individual student who requires specialized one-to-one assistance to maintain progress toward IEP goals.

 

Position Responsibilities:

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Works directly with student to work independently on tasks
  • Assists student with behavioral, toileting and academic needs.
  • Assists with learning through repetition of instructions, rephrasing questions, redirection to activities, modeling of task, reinforcement and visual cues to modify behavior.
  • Assist student with self-help skills, ensure safety and ensure
  • Facilitate peer interaction, promoting social skills
  • Provide supervision at recess and lunch time.
  • Assumes other reasonable and equitable job-related duties assigned by the immediate supervisor

 

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • No supervisory responsibilities.

 

Qualifications:

·         Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.

·          Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community.

·         Knowledge of content area curriculum

·         Knowledge of applicable safety procedures.

·         Ability to provide a supportive and caring environment for children.

·         Knowledge of child development theory and practice.

·         Working knowledge of personal computer with experience in the use of such programs as Word, Excel, and Outlook.

·         Comfortable with team-based work structure; ability to demonstrate flexibility on the job

·         Demonstrates initiative, is conscientious and provides complete follow-through on areas of responsibility

 

Education and Experience:

  • At least High School Diploma, Associates Degree preferred
  • At least two (2) years of experience working with young children

 

Licenses:

 

Physical and Mental Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand and talk or hear and sometimes walk and sit.  While performing the duties of this job, the employee may occasionally push or lift up to 50lbs such as boxes, supplies, etc.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision such as to read handwritten or types material, and the ability to adjust focus.

 

Work Environment:

Work is normally performed in a typical classroom work environment.  The noise level is quiet to moderate.
