[YEP-DC] Special Education Paraprofessional 2013-2014

  • Young Scholars Charter School: our flagship, free, open-enrollment Middle School where students are selected by lottery from across the city of Philadelphia
  • Young Scholars Frederick Douglass Charter School: a Philadelphia Public School District turnaround school serving students from the neighborhood in grades K-8
  • DC Scholars Stanton Elementary: is turnaround school operated in partnership with DC Public School serving neighborhood students in grades Preschool-5
  • DC Scholars Public Charter School: a free, lottery-based, open-enrollment charter startup founded in 2012, serving students from across the DC in grades Preschool-4th.
  • Paul Robeson Charter School for the Humanities: a free, lottery-based, open-enrollment charter school serving students from across Trenton in grades in 4-8 neighborhood students in grades 4-8 re-start opened as a Scholar Academies School in 2012

Special Education Paraprofessional

Job Description 
DC Scholars PCS is recruiting a Special Education Paraprofessional to provide academic services and behavior support to our students with special needs.  They will also support DC Scholars mission through the implementation of an inclusion/resource model.  DC Scholars PCS is seeking motivated staff that is committed to the belief that all children can learn.   
 
Purpose
To provide supportive educational instruction and supervision to students with special needs in the school while supporting a safe, healthy and nurturing environment and an academically demanding program that will foster and promote the development of the whole child. 
 
Primary Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and collaborate with special and general education teacher(s) to reinforce academic goals on student Individual Education Plans (IEPs)
  • Work one on one or in small groups with student with IEPs to reinforce/monitor their academic progress across all school settings
  • Provide behavioral and academic support to special education students in their regular education classrooms
  • Monitor and track progress of student behavior charts
  • Accompany students to lunch, specials and on field trips/other outings
  • Set and maintain high academic and behavioral expectations for all students
  • Lead students to high levels of academic success in an urban school environment
  • Create a welcoming, positive learning environment that motivates and engages students
  • Maintain high ethical standards and open communication with students, teachers, parents and school administrators
  • Adjust teaching practices to ensure student understanding of material
  • Deliver engaging instruction addressing the needs of a full range of student learning styles
  • Maximize learning time by continually adjusting teaching practices
  • Adhere to school management and discipline policies within classroom and school campu
