About our Workforce and Education Policy Group
JFF's Workforce and Education Policy group, based in Washington, DC, works with education and workforce policy leaders and practitioners from around the country to shape effective national and federal policy recommendations that improve pathways to and through credentials with value in the labor market for youth and adults. JFF's policy recommendations are based on more than two decades of experience in research and advocacy in these fields, including translating best and promising practices into policy. The Workforce and Education Policy group's focus encompasses secondary school policy up through workforce training and transitions to careers in high demand fields.
Position Description
One intern will be selected to support the Workforce and Education Policy group. The position has the potential to extend beyond winter/spring into a summer internship. While particular projects will be assigned based on the intern's experience and interests along with the shifting demands of the work, job duties may include the following:
· Researching education- and workforce-related topics, as assigned, and drafting policy briefs related to those topics
· Reviewing, editing, and revising tools and publications
· Assisting with the development of tools, policy documents, and policy technical assistance materials, including conducting research, developing content, creating PowerPoint presentations, and drafting materials
· Assisting with planning and execution of policy meetings and convenings (which will likely include administrative support duties)
· Integrating technology into policy technical assistance materials and other products
· Assisting with social media and communications
· Drafting, updating, and monitoring a personal work plan
· Attending policy briefings and meetings in Washington, DC, as assigned, and preparing summary notes.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree
- Familiarity with education and/or workforce policy, including issues concerning low-income populations, higher education access and success, secondary school reform, career and technical education, low-skilled workers, career pathways, data and accountability
- Familiarity with federal laws governing education and workforce policy nationally
- Excellent writing, research, and analysis capabilities
- Experience in education, workforce, policy, and/or non-profit organization
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to monitor and meet tight deadlines
- Proficiency with Microsoft software, especially Word, Excel and PowerPoint (Mac platform)
- Ability to work well independently and as part of a team
- Flexibility to meet the shifting demands of the work
- Positive, can-do attitude and willingness to attempt tasks that are new
Hours
JFF's hours of operation are Monday through Friday 9am to 5pm. Interns will work in the Washington, DC office approximately 10-15 hours per week during normal business hours, with the possibility of doing some work remotely. While hours will be flexible to accommodate the needs of the intern, we are looking for someone able to maintain some consistency from week to week.
Salary Range
Graduate student interns are paid $14-20/hour based on experience.
