[YEP-DC] KIPP DC job opening: Communications and Marketing Manager

We're looking for a terrific new Communications team member!

ORGANIZATIONAL OVERVIEW:

KIPP DC is a network of high-performing, college-preparatory charter schools in Washington D.C. which serve the city's under-resourced communities.  At KIPP DC, there are no shortcuts: outstanding educators, more time in school, a rigorous college-preparatory curriculum, and a strong culture of achievement and support help our students make significant academic gains and continue to excel in high school and college.

POSITION OVERVIEW:

We are looking for a highly-motivated, creative Communications and Marketing Manager to join the KIPP DC team. This person will help create and direct the internal and external communications and marketing materials of KIPP DC with a significant focus on expanding KIPP DC's recognition in the greater D.C. community.  The Communications and Marketing Manager will work closely with the Development Team, School Leaders and the Recruiting Team.  This individual will report to the Director of Human Capital and Growth.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Develop communications and media relations across functional areas

  • Develop and implement communications plans to support a variety of efforts: fundraising, teacher recruitment, student recruitment, employee communications and the overall KIPP DC brand.
  • Coordinate KIPP DC's media efforts including press releases, media pitches, and staff preparation for interviews.
  • Identify, evaluate, and execute opportunities that increase KIPP DC's visibility among key audiences.
  • Write speeches, talking points, and prepare presentation materials for leadership.
  • Develop, grow and manage KIPP DC's online communications strategy including the website, e-mails and social media.

Develop and oversee KIPP DC assets and materials

  • Create and manage engaging communications pieces consistent with KIPP DC's brand messaging such as newsletters, direct mail, annual reports, advertising, etc. to attract attention and generate interest.
  • Maintain brand consistency and graphic identity with a strong eye for visual design elements, including logo design, creation of invitations, and other marketing materials.
  • Further develop KIPP DC's brand identity and key message points to support strategic positioning in the D.C. community.
  • Create KIPP DC and individual school communications templates and other visual material.
  • Manage communications projects that utilize third-party graphic designers, photographers and video producers for design, marketing, PR and creative support services as time and budget allow.
  • Edit a range of written programmatic and fund-raising materials with a high attention to detail in order to ensure clarity, conciseness, and effectiveness.

 

Other responsibilities

  • Manage photo, video, press release and news print libraries.
  • Act as organizational spokesperson and assist with event execution as needed.
  • Assist in the planning and execution of other team priorities, as requested.

 QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in Communications, Journalism, Marketing, Public Relations or other related area
  • Excellent writing, verbal communication and presentation skills with a keen ability to proofread and edit others' work
  • Minimum 3 years of strategic communications and/or writing-intensive marketing experience with demonstrated success in creating persuasive communications materials
  • Passion for education reform and the belief that every child can succeed.  Experience in education or other non-profit field a plus
  • Detail- and results-oriented team player who is dedicated to getting the job done
  • Successful track record of collaboratively working with a wide range of stakeholders, both internal and external.  Strong leadership skills and an ability to take initiative, develop and seek out creative ideas
  • Comfort with working in a fast-paced, non-profit environment along with an outstanding ability to multi-task, prioritize, manage and execute projects at a high level
  • Mastery of MS Office suite required; graphic design, WordPress, and InDesign experience preferred
  • Unquestioned integrity and commitment to KIPP DC's mission
