You're invited to an ETS discussion on "Improving the Life Course of Black Boys and Men"
This discussion will focus on Improving the Life Course of Black Boys and Men, the 16th of the ETS "Addressing Achievement Gaps" series, devoted to examining the educational challenges faced by our nation's 1.5 million Black boys between the ages of 9–13. In collaboration with the Children's Defense Fund, Middle School Matters is the second of a four part series focusing on the role of policymakers and school leaders in bridging the chasm of educational inequity and steering our young Black boys to the pathway of success. During the middle school years children are experiencing a period of significant academic and developmental transition. For the first time in their lives, middle school students are expected to take responsibility for their own studies and school experiences. Many Black boys enter these school years facing additional developmental and social challenges. The goals of the discussion are to address the challenges faced by young Black boys, discuss successful strategies and programs that enable them to flourish during these critical developmental years, and explore other ways in which we can create a positive school environment for this unique student population. Please join us for this important presentation and what we believe will be a lively discussion. If you have any questions please contact Elizabeth Kingsley at ekingsley@ets.org or 1‑202‑659‑0616. We look forward to your participation, and we'll be sure to keep you informed about our next discussion. Michael T. Nettles
