About Creative Minds International PCS

Creative Minds International Public Charter School (CMI) is a school located in the Columbia Heights neighborhood of Washington D.C. that is entering its second year of operation.  As of August, 2013, CMI will serve students in grades pre-school to three (135 students), and it will add a grade each year until it reaches full capacity at pre-school to 5th grade (240 students).  CMI is a unique, dynamic and engaging place to work.  Its model elements include:

-Use of the International Primary Curriculum (thematic units that integrate several content areas)

-A focus on music, the Arts, and multiple language learning

-A fully integrated model for students with IEPs

-A highly diverse student and teacher population

-A unique synthesis between charter and private school design elements

 

CMI is seeking an Assistant Principal for the 2013-2014 school year.  If possible, the school would like the Assistant Principal to start in Spring 2013 to assist with summer planning and to learn more about the academic and cultural design elements of the school.  The school would also consider welcoming an incoming Assistant Principal on an internship or part-time basis for the first few months if he/she is currently in graduate school.   

 

Responsibilities

The Assistant Principal will be responsible for the following aspects of school leadership and management:

-Assessing the professional development needs of teachers as individuals and in groups

-Planning and implementing professional development sessions in the following areas: Literacy, Math, School Culture, Grading and Assessment

-Evaluating, selecting, and implementing powerful and effective curricula and assessments

-Guiding teachers through the process of data-driven instruction including data analysis, planning re-teaching, and re-assessment

-Guiding and supporting teachers through the process of creating report cards and progress reports as well as holding Parent-Teacher Conferences 

-Observing and evaluating teachers and teacher assistants

-Providing frequent formative feedback to teachers to improve their instructional practice

-Leading instructional initiatives, curriculum planning, and the lesson planning process

 

Critical Skills

In order to be a successful Assistant Principal, an applicant must demonstrate exemplary skills in the following areas:

-Leading and coaching adults

-Collaborating with Operations team members

-Building and promoting positive environments for student and adult culture

-Verbal and written communication

-Communicating with an array of constituents including but not limited to teachers, staff, parents, students, and community members

-Personal organization, attention to detail, and strategic thinking

-Supporting teachers with student discipline-related issues

-Multi-tasking while staying focused on larger-scale projects and responsibilities

-Stamina to work long hours to support our teachers and students

 

Required Qualifications:

-A Bachelors Degree

-At least three years as a highly effective elementary school teacher with demonstrated student achievement results

-Previous experience leading adults in a school setting

-Passion for and commitment to our school's unique vision


Desired Qualifications:

-A Masters degree and DC certification for school leadership

-Prior experience working in both private school and public/charter school settings

-Expertise in supporting students with IEPs

-Prior experience in Early Childhood instruction
