Position : Self Contained Special Education Teacher

Requirements
· In accordance with the federal No Child Left Behind regulations, candidates must meet "highly qualified" teacher requirements before being hired for teaching positions.
· For teachers in D.C. charter schools, this means at least a bachelor's degree and successful completion of the Praxis exam in the core subject area being taught
Qualifications:
· Experience working with children with various disabilities (including autism, cognitive and speech delays, and medically fragile individuals) a plus.
· Special Education Early Childhood Experience
· Maintain and implement the student's IEP for social and academic skills
· Experience with inclusion, especially when caseload has more than one class.
· Ability to train teachers and staff on best practices to meet student needs
· Able to conduct observations and provide useful feedback and strategies for classroom teachers
· Able to create and implement behavior management plans and train other on implementation.
· Prepare and deliver appropriate daily and long-range lessons that motivate and challenge students according to their ability and actively involve them in the learning experience
· Keep written evaluations of student performance on tests, quizzes, homework, class work and classroom participation
· Keep students and parents informed about students performances and behaviors in a timely manner
· Be receptive to parents' comments about how they see their children as learners
· Be accountable for the location and safety of students, by maintaining a written record of student attendance and by reporting concerns to the office
· Set an example for student attitude, respectfulness, courtesy, punctuality, confidentiality, morality, appearance, safety, responsibility, and enthusiasm
· Provide prompt, complete, accurate and legible records and report
· Enforce school policies for student discipline and either resolve or report infractions
· Help students develop self-discipline and self-control
· Respond positively to requests or suggestions from the administration and accept and implement constructive criticism
· Seek assistance when appropriate, maintain an up-to-date certificate, and strive for self-improvement by participating in curriculum development, professional organizations, college courses, and exchanging ideas about teaching strategies with other educators
· Maintain a professional attitude and a positive posture about education to the public
· BA/BS degree, 3 years' experience
