Happy New Year, Following is the latest on Winter Village Bluegrass Festival and its little cousin, the Winter Village Fiddle Camp. Couple of things to highlight. In particular, I wanted many of you to know, particularly those who live in the Ithaca and Finger Lakes region, about the Fiddle Show on Saturday night, January 12 featuring the great Darol Anger who played with Tony Trischka at last years fest, Ithaca's Old Time fiddling guru Judy Hyman, and many others. This has just been added to the camp and should be a blast.
Hope to see you soon! Rick (rick@wintervillagebluegrass.org; 607-592-4647) Winter Village Fiddle Camp & Sat Fiddle Show_Jan 11-13

2013 Bands
Gibson Brothers - Friday Afternoon & Night "The brothers and the band have it all -- lead vocals, brother-duet harmony, instrumental virtuosity, ensemble sensibilities and great original material." That's the buzz. Here are the facts: 2012 IBMA Entertainers of the Year and Gospel Recorded Performance for "Singing As We Rise;" 2011 IBMA Vocal Group of the Year and Album of the Year for "Help My Brother," also named 2011 Album of the year by PopMatters; and, 2010 IBMA Awards for Song of the Year and Gospel Recorded Performance of the Year for "Ring the Bell." - Bluegrass Unlimited
VIDEO LINKS: One of my favorite Gibson Brothers original songs about the Adirondacks is called Railroad Line. Click here to see a video of recent live version here. Great writing, singing and playing. See them win this year's biggest IBMA award, Entertainer of the Year, at the 2012 awards show. Here they are performing another original song at the IBMA Awards show - They Called It Music.
Della Mae - Saturday Day and Night "Della Mae is five women that are turning heads, winning hearts, and quickly becoming a household name in acoustic, folk, roots, and bluegrass music. They combine good picking with serious songwriting chops to make one sweet sound." Old Settlers Music Festival, Austin, Texas.
VIDEO LINKS: Della Mae performing at Grey Fox this summer. This first instrumental is a Bill Monroe classic called The Road to Columbus and features National Fiddle Champion Kimber Ludiker. Here they are on the main stage at Grey Fox last summer performing Jamie Dear. Frank Solivan & Dirty Kitchen - Saturday Day and Night "There's a red-hot core of barely tamed wildness in the heart of bluegrass music, something we tend to forget in this day-and-age of overly sanitized and "safe" bluegrass bands. Frank Solivan & Dirty Kitchen helped me remember why I love bluegrass: the pure adrenaline of lightning-fast picking and wickedly complex arrangements." Devon Leger of No Depression
VIDEO LINKS: Here is Frank and the boys playing their interpretation of The Letter at the IBMA awards show this year. Frank is a very good chef and is looking forward to checking out Ithaca's great local foods scene.
