[YEP-DC] KIPP DC is looking for a Speech and Language Pathologist

POSITION OVERVIEW:

KIPP DC is looking for a dynamic, committed and flexible Speech and Language Pathologist to become part of a vibrant educational community.  The KIPP DC Speech and Language Pathologist will do whatever it takes to improve student achievement and ensure that students are progressing on their individual goals. 

 

We are looking for a highly dedicated SLP who will bring a "whatever it takes" attitude to helping children succeed.  KIPP DC SLPs are responsible for delivering effective, high-quality, intervention.  KIPP DC gives its students an intensive foundation in the core academic subjects with an emphasis on developing the knowledge and skills necessary for success in school and in life.  The KIPP DC community holds itself to high standards, cognizant that success can be achieved by all, regardless of challenging circumstances, through team work, tenacity and focused dedication.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

·        Serve as a resource to school staff members in the development of a balanced program for speech, language and literacy development.

·        Provide speech and language therapy special education students in groups and/or as individuals per their Individual Education Plans. Provide pull-out group and push-un co-reaching support.

·        Provide intervention to any student through response to intervention including small groups and classroom intervention

·        Participate in Multidisciplinary team meetings and responsibilities. Attends meetings, writes progress summaries on present levels of performance, and proposed IEP goals.

·        Assist and guide teachers in observing, describing and referring suspected and identified speech and language impairments.

·        Assist in the proper referrals of students to agencies and specialists in the community as appropriate.

·        Provide appropriate individualized programs of therapy to meet individual students' needs and correct existing speech or language impairments.

·        Keep thorough records for each student receiving therapy or other school provided speech-language services.

·        Conduct speech, language and hearing screenings and evaluations.

·        Believe deeply in the mission and values of KIPP and subscribe to KIPP's Five Pillars

·        Hold high expectations for each student

·        Demonstrate strong pedagogy

·        Implement the school-wide student management policies within classrooms and everywhere on campus

·        Exhibit positive rapport with students

·        Create and foster a positive learning environment

·        Establish and maintain strong communication lines with all parents

·        Be available for Open Houses, Parent-Teacher Conferences and other events involving parents

·        Assist in development of curriculum standards and mapping

·        Maintain a neat, clean classroom environment and a professional personal appearance

·        Serve on school committees as needed

·        Perform clerical duties, as required, relating to textbooks, instructional supplies, student reports and records, attendance reports, etc.

·        Remain on call in the evenings (via school cell phone) to provide student support

REQUIREMENTS:

·        At least two years of experience (Preferred)

·        ASHA certified (Required)

·        Experience/strength in phonemic awareness and reading remediation (Preferred)

·        Commitment to working with underserved students (Required)

·        Experience working in a public middle school (Preferred)

·        Experience working in an urban school (Preferred)

·        Pass a criminal background check, as required by law

 

Other skills and traits

·        Bachelor's Degree required

·        Unquestioned integrity and commitment to KIPP DC's mission
