Job Summary:
The Program Associate, Common Core State Standards Implementation will report to the Program Director, Common Core State Standards Implementation and will work with the Common Core State Standards implementation and common assessment teams and other staff at the Council to support states in their transition to college- and career-ready standards and assessments. Specific responsibilities include:
· Leading CCSSO’s activities on Common Core implementation and common assessments for students with disabilities and English language learners, including serving as CCSSO’s representative on these topics at national meetings and creating new supports for states (in-person meetings, webinars, publications)
· Continually maintaining and developing a system for collecting, tracking, and analyzing data on state implementation of Common Core to identify trends, monitor state progress, and pinpoint areas to focus future CCSSO supports to states
· Portraying CCSSO’s Common Core implementation work effectively by regularly updating the content and design of CCSSO’s internal collaboration website and externally facing websites
· Identifying new high-quality Common Core resources and promising state Common Core implementation practices in order to continually update and distribute them through CCSSO’s Common Core implementation newsletter and publications.
· Generating topics for and executing CCSSO’s Common Core implementation webinar series
· Responding to inquiries from the general public and states on the Common Core State Standards
· Traveling to attend CCSSO hosted meetings and meetings hosted by other national organizations
Skills and Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in public policy, education, or related field preferred; Master’s degree desired but not required
• At least two years of professional experience, including experience in an education environment
• Understanding of national and state education policy, including the Common Core State Standards, and drive to seek out new knowledge in these areas
• Ability to work in a team environment while demonstrating the ability to solve problems independently
• Ability to set priorities for use of one’s time, work under pressure, and adjust tasks appropriately
• Comfort working in a constantly changing, highly dynamic environment
• Demonstrated experience managing complex projects
• Strong interpersonal and verbal and written communications skills
• Exceptional customer service skills
