Bluegrassers:
As a bluegrass singer, you just can't go too far before bumping into a
Hank Williams song. And so it is with my partner Carol Hausner, having
multiple Hank Williams songs within her repertoire. This performance
features Carol on lead vocal, doing one of Hank's most popular tunes.
The performance was live on the big stage at the "Appalachian Jubilee"
in
Carol Hausner Lead Vocal and Guitar
Warren Reeder Dobro
Ed Schaeffer 87 Herringbone and Harmony
Later, I added a bass line at John Vengrouskie's studio: "SoundScenes".
From Wikipedia, concerning the origin of this song:
Acuff-Rose had its headquarters on
district of
of the music industry. It was here that Hank Williams, to prove his ability to
Rose, wrote what would become a major hit song ("I Can't Help It If I'm Still
in Love with You") while Rose went out to a nearby restaurant for a cup of
coffee. Rose formed a friendship with Williams, as he did many performers,
such as Wendy O. Williams.
Also, from another Wikipedia reference, this song was actually a B-Side to the
1951 A-Side: "Howlin' at the Moon". The B-Side went to #2 on the Country Charts.
For Carol and me, this song appeared on our CD entitled "Honeysuckle", our
performance name, and includes all live cuts from the Appalachian Jubilee
stage. "Old Flames" and "Gold Watch and Chain", previously sent, appear
on the same CD.
