Summary

 

DC Prep is hiring a Chief Talent Officer.  As a member of the DC Prep leadership team, the Chief Talent Officer will serve as a strategic advisor to the CEO and represent DC Prep to external stakeholders. This dynamic, experienced leader will be responsible for developing and implementing DC Prep's talent acquisition, professional development, and diversity strategies.  The top candidate must bring a demonstrated commitment to education reform, exceptional leadership and management skills, and a proven ability to think strategically and creatively.  

 

Key Responsibilities


Executive Leadership:

Serve on the DC Prep leadership team and function as the senior most talent/people executive in the organization

· Serve as a strategic advisor, functional expert and coach to the CEO and executive/senior management team regarding key talent acquisition strategies and issues

· Represent DC Prep's expertise and leadership development expertise in external forums

· Actively promote DC Prep as a great place to work and build the DC Prep brand nationwide


Talent Strategy and Management:

· Develop comprehensive strategic recruiting and retention plans to meet the organization's human capital needs; provide leadership and guidance around talent acquisition

· Utilize data and metrics to inform talent management and planning including analyzing the effectiveness of recruitment and selection processes

· Work with the COO to define and execute an HR technology strategy in support of organizational goals, including the implementation of an HRIS

· Develop and implement a broader talent pipeline delivery system that anticipates and is responsive to DC Prep's long-term and continuous talent needs

· Manage, mentor and coach department staff (3.5 FTEs), ensuring alignment of team and department objectives to overall organizational objectives and standards

· Visit DC Prep campuses, build relationships, understand talent needs and develop tailored support plans

· Ensure alignment of talent team's work with the organizational growth plan and with other functions at DC Prep

· Gather needed data to create and implement sourcing strategies, processes and activities related to the identification and attraction of top talent

· Provide training for managers on appropriate interview/screening techniques of candidates

Diversity

· Lead the development of all diversity strategies and initiatives at DC Prep, including the provision of strategic direction and consultation to the CEO and Executive Team on all issues related to diversity

· In collaboration with the COO, support the creation and implementation of plans, policies, proposals, programs, and operating procedures with regard to DC Prep diversity initiatives

· Monitors and evaluates programmatic and operational effectiveness, and effects changes required for improvement.

· Develops relationships with and serve as liaison to any external agencies, associations, firms and/or groups to support the organization's diversity goals

Qualifications:

· Minimum of 6-8 years of progressively responsible management experience, with at least five years in a senior talent (manager-of-managers) position. Strong network in urban education reform and deep knowledge of the field

· Expertise in teaching and learning and ability to identify strong educators; teaching experience preferred

· Fundamental belief that all students can achieve academic and professional success on an absolute scale, regardless of background

· Passion for innovative approaches to education reform, and eagerness to lead the growth of a high profile organization

· Proven ability to hire, develop and retain effective, diverse teams and to work in a fast-paced nonprofit environment

· Track record of achieving strong results while maintaining an inclusive, collaborative leadership style

· Strong strategic thinking skills with an ability to use data to make decisions and to translate strategy to plan to action

· Superior communication skills with an ability to articulate a clear and compelling vision and lead others to implement it

· Exceptional interpersonal skills, with the ability to develop productive working relationships across a wide variety of individuals and groups, both internally and externally

· Ability to coach and mentor direct reports, peers and executives on sound talent management practices; track record of driving organizational results by coaching and mentoring

· Excellent relationship building skills with a demonstrated ability to work well with people with a very wide diversity of demographic and cultural characteristics

· Resilience and an outcomes-focused approach to work

· Sound judgment and experience or familiarity with the culture as well as the regulatory and economic realities of a not-for-profit organization

· Leadership experience in a growing, entrepreneurial organization preferred

· Ability and excitement to model DC Prep's core values

· Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution required; relevant advanced degree preferred
