Overview:

As the nation's first multi-campus charter school, Friendship Public Charter School has been producing college-ready students for over 15 years. From Preschool through 12th grade, Friendship invests in providing a rigorous academic curriculum that enables our children to excel as ethical, literate, and well-rounded leaders in a 21st century economy. We provide a number of professional growth and development opportunities which have yielded both the 2010 and 2011 DC Teachers of the Year, and three outstanding school principals who launched their careers in our classrooms.

 

Position Summary:

 The Dean of the Health Sciences Academy provides coordination of all Health Sciences programs and provides leadership to develop program pathways in medical careers, nursing, and related fields. Reporting to the Principal, the Dean will work closely with school leadership to:

  • Maintain and improve existing Allied Health programs while creating new Health Sciences pathways
  • Support high quality instructional services and faculty development
  • Communicate with and encourage collaboration between and among community partners, health care providers, regulatory agencies, accrediting bodies, professional groups, funding sources, and area colleges and universities
  • Work on collaborative projects that create a health science pathway from 9-12 to college for Friendship Collegiate Academy
The Dean must demonstrate excellent communication skills, provide leadership in assigned areas, and be committed to education of the socio-economically and culturally diverse populations served by the District.

Desired Qualifications: 
  • Administrative experience, defined as a manager, supervisor, or director whose responsibility and accountability included coordinating, directing, and activities involved in developing, implementing, and managing a Health Sciences, Medical Careers, Allied Health or similar program
  • Previous teaching experience in a secondary Health Sciences, Medical Careers, Allied Health or similar program
  • Evidence of successful experiences demonstrating the ability to:
    • Serve diverse student populations and communities typical of urban high schools where academic, socioeconomic, culture and ethnic differences can create disparities in health care and in educational attainment
    • Build and maintain partnership ventures with hospitals, clinical sites, agencies, regulatory bodies, and colleges or universities
    • Make good judgments, set appropriate priorities, lead change and evaluate the effectiveness of decisions, plans, programs and employees
    • Lead in a cooperative environment
