Job Title: Pre Law and Fellowship Programs Coordinator

GENERAL DUTIES

Supports projects, initiatives, and activities that impact an academic or administrative department.

- Manages basic office functions such as communications, meeting schedules, work plans, staff assignments, and distributing information.

- Collects data for, prepares, and distributes reports and presentations using word processing, spreadsheet, and presentation software.

- Updates office databases, lists, and files to ensure completeness and accuracy; maintains current information on department web site(s); maintains department archives and collections.

- Conducts internet and/or database research and performs basic systems queries to locate information related to department activities.

- Maintains department fiscal plans and budgets; assists in budget administration and invoice processing.

- Provides basic information, instructions, and materials as requested by students, faculty, and others who contact the department.

- May supervise office staff and student workers.

- Performs related duties as assigned.

CAMPUS SPECIFIC INFORMATION

The purpose of this position is to increase the competitiveness of John Jay College students applying for major national fellowships such as the Rhodes, Fulbright, Marshall, Carnegie, Churchill and similar awards and for admission to graduate legal study.

Reporting to the Director, the primary responsibility of the Coordinator is to provide holistic pre-law and fellowship programming services to John Jay students and alumni of all majors who are exploring or pursuing postgraduate legal education or fellowship opportunities. The Coordinator will be an important resource to students during their entire college careers, as they move into their majors and begin to prepare for a wide variety of graduate programs and law school or other objectives.

In addition to the general duties, the specialist will:

- Create and present workshops,

- Contribute to the office's advising services mission by expanding experiential learning opportunities,

- Create and deliver educational materials, and mentor students and alumni to maximize their chances of successful completion of fellowship competitions and the law school application process,

- Encourage students to develop the intellectual curiosity, civic engagement, and meritorious conduct expected of successful applicants to selective fellowship and professional school opportunities.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor's Degree required.

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS
- Graduate degree preferred,

- Strong attention to detail,

- Strong interpersonal skills,

- Ability to interact with broad cross-section of on and off-campus partners and law school representatives,

- An understanding of the law school application process,

- Familiarity with fellowship application processes,

- Knowledge of academic and student development advising practices.

COMPENSATION: $35,578 -$42,873
BENEFITS: CUNY offers a comprehensive benefits package to employees and eligible dependents based on job title and classification. Employees are also offered pension and Tax-Deferred Savings Plans. Part-time employees must meet a weekly or semester work hour criteria to be eligible for health benefits. Health benefits are also extended to retirees who meet the eligibility criteria.
