[dcab-l] Mike Auldridge

Folks,

It has been a rather numbing day. As you know Mike Auldridge passed
early this morning in his Silver Spring home. Mike was under hospice
care and left us surrounded by loving family.

I won't/can't go into a summary of Mikes accomplishments except to say
his nicknames "St Mike" and "Larry The Legend" were bestowed upon him as
measures of love and respect by all who were privileged to know him. I
have not known a kinder or more gentle person. He was a fine human being.

I am passing along the following information to all who wish to pay
their respects and offer sympathy:
- - - - - - -
The Auldridge family advises that a visitation will be held on Thursday
Jan. 3 at St. Michaels Church in Silver Spring at 3:00, followed by a
mass at 4:00, followed by a reception.

St Michael the Archangel Catholic Church
805 Wayne Avenue
Silver Spring, MD 20910
Phone: (301) 589-1155 Fax: (301) 589-3470

Expressions of sympathy can be sent to the Auldridge family at:

Thank you

Yes, it is true. :-(

If not for Mike Auldridge, there never would have been a Jerry Douglas.

He would have been 74 tomorrow.

"I would go to the Station Inn jam every Sunday night, all the pickin' parties I could find, and I started to really use my ears instead of relying on learned licks while improvising. I had so many great teachers either directly or indirectly, there are too many to name. My first gig in Nashville took me on a tour of Canada with the Fox Family Band. That provided an introduction to Ronnie Bowman which was an introduction to Jeremy Garrett and Andy Hall, eventual band mates with the Infamous Stringdusters. While in Nashville, I did a bunch of sessions, played with whoever I could, jammed every chance I got and developed a style that includes influences from just about anything I've ever enjoyed listening to."  Jesse Cobb

[dcab-l] Mike Auldridge

I'm really glad that Mike was able to perform at the National Endowment for the Arts 2012 National Heritage Fellows Concert and honors ceremony back in October. This was at the Lisner Auditorium at George Washington University in Washington, DC. I'm proud to say that I was sitting next to Tom Gray in the front row.
To see the webcast: www.nea.gov/honors/heritage/Oct4-webcast.html Audio starts around 17:00; video starts about 20:00.

I'd be very interested in that! Of course, it'll ultimately depend on
the location, day of week, and time! :-)

[dcab-l] Considering a Promotions support group...

Anybody interested in the occasional discussion of use of various outlets to promote your group/band/self?

If so let me know. We'll target a coffee shop and sit down every 4-6 weeks and talk about it.

After doing this for the DCBU for the last 3 years, I have ideas to share, but things continue to evolve very quickly. At this point, I'm thinking that a group would be the best way to keep up.

Let me know off list if your interested.

[dcab-l] Woody and Dad sing "Blue Christmas"

Friends

This is the fourth year Woody and I have recorded a

Christmas Carol or song.

In 09 we worked on "Star of Bethlehem", and

in 10, we did "Silent Night". Just last year we

sang "Siler Bells"

This year, we've recorded "Blue Christmas".  Woody

did the recording, uke, and lead vocal; Dad sang

harmony and played the guitar and bass.  This is my

second recording on the 2009 Martin Marquis; for the bass,

I chose my fretless Rob Allen "Mouse".

To listen, just  click the URL below:

http://rattlesnakehill.org/Web_Music/edsmusic.html

We hope you enjoy it and we wish everyone a happy

and healthy Holiday Season!

[dcab-l] Looking for a gathering

Dobro dude looking for a "band like" gathering (1 inst per part) to play
"contemporary" bluegrass (think Scenish). Baritone/low tenor harmony.

Looking for several like minded players to gather and dig into
interesting material. Original stuff a plus.

I _have_ _other_ musical obligations. Music is also my day job. It's
fine if you are also otherwise engaged. Looking for an interesting
stimulus. We can see what develops over time.

I have tracks. I have videos. (hopefully you also) Done some touring.
Played some festivals. Done a little this and that.

Do not mind travel for an interesting situation.

Want to start a conversation? Drop me a line off list!

Merry Christmas
