New America is seeking a Program Associate who is interested in pursuing a career in education policy, journalism, or a related area. The program associate will work on several projects funded through New America's Dual Language Learner National Work Group.
New America is a nonprofit, nonpartisan public policy institute that invests in new thinkers and new ideas to address the next generation of challenges facing the United States.
Responsibilities
· Research and report on an array of PreK–3rd grade education policy issues related to English language proficiency, bilingual education, and dual language learners and their families.
· Regular writing and publishing on the Education Policy Program's EdCentral blog and its new "Atlas" platform
· Conduct supporting research and analysis of federal, state, and district education policies and their intersection with the needs of dual language learners as part of longer-form policy analysis.
· Assist with planning and holding convening events to showcase the team's work—in Washington, D.C. and elsewhere.
· Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Skills
· A bachelor's degree required.
· Proficiency in a language other than English necessary.
· Very strong writing and editing abilities that span a variety of different styles and audiences: blog posts, in-depth policy research, opinion journalism, and more.
· Strong research and data analysis skills required.
· Knowledge of education policy issues.
· Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
· Excellent work ethic matched by openness to feedback and collaboration.
· Persistent belief in the ability of all children to learn and a corresponding sense of urgency about the importance of ensuring that educational systems give them that opportunity.
