Job Description


THE ORGANIZATION:

Leading Educators partners with schools and districts to maximize the leadership development of highly effective teachers. Our goal is to identify, train, and support teacher leaders and, in turn, increase student achievement and develop the skills and sustainability of teachers on our teacher leaders' teams.

 

Leading Educators offers formal training sessions designed to be immediately applicable by teacher leaders. Expert faculty model new skills, facilitate targeted practice, and drive action planning for implementation.

 

Leading Educators also provides customized teacher leadership development consulting for districts, charter management organizations, schools, state-level agencies, and non-profit organizations. Consulting is customized based on partner needs, context, and goals.

 

 

 

 

THE POSITION:

 

The Director of Human Capital is responsible for managing the recruitment, onboarding, and retention of talent within the organization. H/she will also be responsible for managing the organization's culture building and human resource functions including benefits and payroll administration, performance management, compensation, compliance, and ongoing personnel matters.

Essential Functions

  • Lead all aspects of talent management, helping to ensure that Leading Educators can identify, attract, and develop diverse talent necessary to implement overall strategy.
  • Develop/enhance programs and processes to identify, recruit, develop, review, and retain diverse talent. Lead the review of existing performance-management processes, and recommend ways to strengthen feedback and review mechanisms to meet our goals of being an inclusive, innovative, team-based learning organization. Help to create an approach to leadership development and succession planning.
  • Review training and development needs and ensure that the organization launches cost effective talent management programs with an overall objective of increasing employee contributions, sustaining morale and teamwork, and retaining a workforce that is enthusiastic, motivated, and loyal.
  • Recommend and implement compensation strategies to ensure that the organization stays competitive in the market and retains and motivates its top talent.
  • Advise senior leadership on organization design, change management, and how to best sustain a culture that suits our mission, supports our staff, and addresses any individual performance, interpersonal, and communications issues in our workplace.
  • Be aware of evolving government influences on management, policies, processes and practices, and work to ensure that Leading Educators is in compliance with all applicable laws and regulations concerning employment practices, employee health and safety, employee and labor relations, etc.

 

Knowledge and Skills

The Director of Human Capital will have strategic insight and proven, in-depth experience in strengthening and establishing talent management processes. She or he will have experience creating and implementing practices suited to Leading Educators' mission and character as a small, high functioning nonprofit organization. The Director of Human Capital will serve as a spokesperson for people and culture, and as a contributor and advisor to senior leadership. She or he will be an excellent manager with strong business acumen and a sound technical background in human resources, as well as experience leading a small department.

  • Possess understanding and demonstrated ability to work in a small to mid-sized organization and be directly involved in policy and process review, development, and implementation.
  • Come with talent management and HR experience from innovative, highly regarded organization(s); have a track record in building and managing diverse teams.
  • Understand success metrics to ensure that performance objectives and programs reinforce the achievement of organization objectives.
  • Demonstrate strong communications skills. Be forthright—yet tactful—receptive, helpful, expert, and persuasive with individuals and groups.
  • Serve as a personal advisor to key members of management.  Be willing to challenge management's point of view when appropriate, offering alternative constructive suggestions backed by facts.
  • Demonstrate ability to work in an organization that values work-life effectiveness, with many employees working virtually all or part of the time, and play a role in building systems and a culture of connection, innovation, and learning.

 

 

 

 

CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS:

 

  • Undergraduate degree required; an advanced degree is preferred.
  • Significant leadership and direct involvement in the design and implementation of the talent management, learning and/or organizational development programs of a small to mid-sized company or nonprofit organization.
  • Experience preferred in managing human resource functions for a small to mid-sized organization including benefits and payroll administration, performance management, compensation, compliance, and ongoing personnel matters.
  • Experience working in the education field strongly preferred.

 

 

 

 

LOCATION:

Flexible location with preference to New Orleans (headquarters), Washington DC, Kansas City, or Chicago.

 

 

 

 

COMPENSATION:

Salary and benefits will be competitive, commensurate with experience.
