ABOUT ACHIEVE
POSITION SUMMARY
The Associate Director is responsible for managing Achieve's strategy for working with states and districts to implement quality instructional products aligned to the NGSS. Major responsibilities include leading the NGSS EQuIP (Educators Evaluating the Quality of Instructional Products) and the Primary Evaluation of Essential Criteria for Alignment (PEEC-alignment) initiatives, including development of specific vehicles/services for taking EQuIP and PEEC to scale.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Manage NGSS Quality Instructional Materials Initiatives
Assist Achieve in the design and execution of a strategy in collaboration with Achieve staff to engage states in determining the quality and alignment of curricular and instructional materials to the NGSS.
Manage a plan and metrics to take EQuIP to scale by expanding the reach and utilization of NGSS tools, rubrics and protocols with states, districts and partners.
Lead planning and execution of EQuIP convenings, trainings and webinars including oversight for meeting planning and execution as well as development of timelines, budgets, agendas, and materials.
Manage and support the production of training materials and other materials necessary to support the effective use/implementation of EQuIP.
Serve as Achieve's central point of contact with EQuIP and NGSS Primary Evaluation of Essential Criteria for Alignment (PEEC), keeping states and partners informed of opportunities and directing requests for assistance to appropriate staff and/or consultants.
Develop and manage the EQuIP Peer Review Panel and any related training processes. Lead the development of these processes and ensure calibration and high quality implementation.
In working with partners, lead the transition of existing instructional materials to NGSS aligned materials by providing strategic guidance and direction to consultants and partners as they develop new materials.
Provide NGSS Implementation Support to Achieve, States and Partners
Provide support, resources, tools and technical assistance, specifically with regard to quality instructional materials aligned with NGSS.
Contribute to efforts to identify indicators of NGSS implementation, including identifying emerging practices, bright spots, trends and common challenges.
Contribute to the development and dissemination of tools, produced internally and through either external consultants or in collaboration with partner organizations, which elevate leading practices for NGSS instructional materials.
Engage with states, districts and partner organizations to help leverage and raise awareness of technical assistance, NGSS implementation and planning tools designed for states and districts.
Provide State Policy and Implementation Support
Support the Achieve Executive Team to ensure consistent prioritization and coordination on activities that provide direct support to states, specifically the quality of instructional materials.
Collaborate across units to ensure key Achieve staff are informed and appropriately engaged in science activities with regard to quality of instructional materials in support of states.
Participate in development and execution of Achieve's strategy for working with states on the NGSS and broader college- and career-ready policy agenda.
Assist in strengthening relationships with state leadership teams and partners, keeping them informed about Achieve's work and, when appropriate, promoting cross-state collaboration and collective problem solving.
Provide facilitation support at multi-state convenings.
Provide leadership in catalyzing both the transition and development of quality instructional materials as guided by EQuIP and/or PEEC.
Management
Lead the management of grants and budgets, including proposal writing and interim/final grant reports associated with supporting EQuIP, PEEC and other relevant content streams of work designed to support quality materials aligned with NGSS.
Develop, manage, and update strategic work plans, including goals and objectives. Help establish performance measures and evaluate progress towards meeting those metrics.
Communications and Collaboration
Collaborate across units to ensure key Achieve staff are informed about and appropriately engaged in NGSS instructional product development and dissemination.
Serve as a spokesperson for Achieve on NGSS EQuIP and PEEC.
Build and maintain appropriate partnerships with national organizations, including content organizations and partners, as well as research and development efforts.
Collaborate with Achieve staff to produce new content for Achieve websites and publications related to NGSS implementation efforts.
Lead the development of public reports on state progress and/or lessons learned as necessary from NGSS implementation and content work.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor's Degree and minimum of 6 years of classroom and school leader experience, district or state curricular and instructional materials development experience and management, or a combination of these, with a history of progressively more responsible positions.
Deep knowledge of the NGSS.
Exceptional research, writing, and communication skills, including excellent facilitation and presentation skills.
Experience managing large projects with evolving deliverables, complex budgets, people and consultants, including those working remotely.
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
Advanced skills in collaboration, engagement and team problem-solving.
Persistence, resourcefulness, drive and ability to work proactively.
Experience with instructional materials adoption at the state or district level
