[YEP-DC] Job Posting - Alumni Support Counselor at DC Prep

PrepNext is DC Prep's unconditional commitment to the enduring success of its alumni in high school and college.

We are currently seeking an Alumni Support Counselor to join the PrepNext team. The Counselor will be responsible for building and maintaining relationships with students and their families, developing collaborative relationships with high schools and partner organizations, monitoring and assessing student progress, and creating effective programming to support DC Prep alumni throughout high school. The Alumni Support Counselor must be a strategic thinker and a hands-on doer, capable of working effectively with both students and adults. This position requires exceptional interpersonal skills and a strong work ethic.

 

Responsibilities

 

·  Contribute to the design and implementation of the high school phase of the PrepNextPrimary areas of responsibility include:

o Developing an annual program and work-plan with the Director of PrepNext to meet goals in alumni support for a cohort of high school students

o Building and maintaining strong relationships with high school alumni through regular school visits and active engagement in PrepNext programming

o Providing student-specific interventions for academic, financial, and social challenges that students face as they pursue their academic goals

o Identifying a broad array of academic, social, and financial supports at placement high schools and helping students to take advantage of them, including connecting students to key advocates and resources

o Advising high school juniors and seniors through college application process, including support for college search, application, financing, and matriculation

o Counseling and supporting students who are transferring between institutions. Help students manage process, advocate for resources, secure financial assistance, meet deadlines, and successfully matriculate into a new school.

o Developing workshops and programming on topics of high interest/high need for alumni

o Collecting and analyzing educational data relevant to student support

o Providing support for ongoing team programming for both high school and post-secondary students as a member of the PrepNext team

 

Qualifications

·  Deep belief in DC Prep's vision and mission

·  Strong accordance with DC Prep's values: results for students; good minds and good hearts; excellence; reflection and refinement; optimistic determination; and generosity and humor

·  A foundational belief that all students can succeed at the highest levels

·  Bachelor's degree; master's preferred

·  Two to five years of relevant experience

·  Willingness to travel locally up to 30-40% of the time.

·  Ability to facilitate group workshops for a range of age groups

·  Proven ability to collaborate and build relationships with stakeholders across functional and organizational lines

·  Extraordinary interpersonal and communication skills and desire to work as a team player

·  Meticulous organizational ability in order to set priorities, organize workload, handle multiple responsibilities and meet deadlines

·  A "whatever it takes" attitude

·  Creativity, resourcefulness, drive, and a sense of humor

·  Maturity and personal stability sufficient for a demanding position

·  Proficiency across social media platforms
