[YEP-DC] Storytelling Workshop for Teachers!

Greetings all.  I have had the pleasure of working with this storyteller and hearing her perform.  She is phenomenal.  The workshop is outlined below.

The Passionate Fact: Storytelling Science, an Introduction

Susan Strauss, professional storyteller

A naturalist's life holds a wealth of experience. This living knowledge is humus for stories. Story is the most accessible way for humans to digest information, reflect upon it and sustain memory. This lecture and demonstration showcases how, in the smallest ways, story can transform scientific content into something meaningful and essential. Good storytelling engages and feels inclusive of any audience. It intrigues intelligence without being snobbish. It excites discussion. A variety of story forms and archetypes will be presented which aide a naturalist in finding the right story for a particular audience or moment. David Attenborough and other great communicators of natural history have also been great storytellers. Why shouldn't modern environmental educators inherit these same capacities? Join Susan Strauss as she performs excerpts from her botanical works such as Secrets of the Dark Forest: Tree Stories, When Venus Blushes: Plant Stories and Seeds from the Sun: Stories of Agricultural Wisdom.
