The Master Educator Program at DC Public Schools is now accepting applications for the 2015 - 2016 school year.
Position Overview
The Master Educator Program includes approximately 45 content-area experts who evaluate teachers twice per year (with some exception) and provide instructional capacity to support DCPS reform initiatives.
The Master Educator, IMPACT will work to operationalize the IMPACT performance assessment system by evaluating the instructional performance of teachers in the district. Master Educators have four primary responsibilities: 1) to serve as impartial, third-party evaluators of teacher performance, 2) to provide all teachers with targeted, content-specific feedback and resources based on their evaluation, 3) to provide selected school-based staff with coaching to improve instructional practice, and 4) to provide instructional capacity to support DCPS reform initiatives.
Master Educators primarily work in the field, conducting observations of, conferencing with, and supporting school based staff across DCPS. The position, therefore, requires significant travel within the city. Master Educators work as 12-month employees of DCPS.

Teacher Observations
- Evaluates teacher practice through classroom observations. Each master educator will complete approximately 100 30-minute observations per observation cycle (two observation cycles per academic year).
- Maintains detailed observational records, thoroughly documenting and rating evidence from each observation.
- Writes detailed reports to accompany each observation. Reports will include explanations of the teacher's ratings, evidence, and suggestions for growth.
- Conducts one-on-one post-observation conferences with all observed teachers, which allow opportunity to dialogue about specific areas of development.
- Supports professional development in selected schools with a focus on content and pedagogy.
- Collaborates with other DCPS staff and departments to support implementation of the DCPS academic plan and meet programmatic goals.
- Attends meetings and on-going trainings as required.
- Bachelor's degree and one to three years related work experience.
- At least five (5) years of teaching experience in a low-income school.
- Track record of success increasing student achievement in a low-income school.
- Track record of success providing support and training to other educators.
