Generation Hope is a nonprofit organization that helps teen parents in the DC metro region earn their college degrees by providing them with tuition assistance, case management, and one-on-one mentoring support. Based on the belief that education is vital to success, Generation Hope aims to change the statistic stating that less than 2% of women who have a baby by age 18 will earn a degree by age 30. The organization is seeking a Summer Program Intern to support this important work.
Summer Program Intern Job Description
The Program Intern is responsible for the development, coordination, implementation, and occasionally evaluation of programs and activities based on the needs of Generation Hope Scholars and their families, Sponsors, staff, and volunteers. The Program Intern works in coordination with the Program Manager and provides support to Generation Hope staff. The Program Intern will also have the opportunity to design and implement a project of his/her choosing—this could range from creating new resources for our Scholars to designing elements of training, etc. Program Interns will work a flexible schedule partially in the office and partially through tele-work. Candidates must be able to work at least 20 hours weekly; candidates who can work at least 30 hours weekly are preferred. Start and end dates are flexible; ideal candidates will be available early June-late August.
Duties
• Oversee logistical details related to the Gala, Hope Conference, New Scholar Training, and other events as needed
• Assist with maintaining Scholar/Sponsor records and database files
• Assist with marketing and communicating Generation Hope Scholar Program to community
• Track program participation and prepare reports as necessary
• Assist with organizing college readiness workshops and other outreach events
• Attend all weekly staff meetings and evening meetings where appropriate
• Work with Volunteer Coordinator to arrange Childcare Volunteers to ensure that daycare services are being provided during Generation Hope events
• Assist with blogging and social media
Qualifications
• High School Diploma required. Preference will be given to candidates with some college experience, particularly those studying Public Administration, Family Studies, Social Work, Health and Human Services, or a related field.
• Knowledge of Microsoft Office Programs
• Strong Writing skills
• Most importantly, the ideal candidate needs to be self-directed and able to carry through projects with little oversight and in a partially tele-work environment.
