Responsibilities
The development and staff assistant will report to the development manager and will work primarily with that individual, as well as with other Fordham staff members. Specific responsibilities include:
· Assisting the development manager in the preparation of grant proposals, grant reports, funder communications, and marketing materials for a foundation audience
· Closely tracking obligations to current funders
· Maintaining a database of past, current, and prospective funders
· Engaging in prospecting for new funders,, including researching and identifying foundations, high net-worth individuals, corporations and others that may be interested in Fordham's work
· Scheduling, coordinating travel, and administrative support for the President Emeritus
· Supporting in-house needs of Finance and Operations staff, including travel, scheduling, and mailings
· Helping with vendor relations and general office management
· General office support, including handling mail, copies, and other tasks as needed
· Helping plan staff lunches and other morale-boosting activities
· Contributing to research, writing, and educational projects, depending on interests
· Serving as a receptionist and answering phones
Qualifications
This is a diverse and challenging position, and needs a creative and committed individual. Candidates should be organized, detail-oriented, and able to work in a fast-paced and flexible environment. Past experience in education policy or teaching is always a plus.
The ideal candidate for this position is a self-starter with a Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience, preferably in public policy, political science, communications, education, or a related field. To succeed in this position, a candidate must have a strong writing background. Additional requirements include:
· Strong interpersonal skills, including comfort working directly with executives, funders, and the general public
· Knowledge of a variety of education policy issues, ideally those related to K-12 academic standards, as well as curriculum/instruction, social mobility via education, and school choice
· Project- and time- management skills (including coordinating multiple duties and projects simultaneously and juggling competing deadlines)
· Eagerness to work hard, learn quickly, and do everything necessary to support your colleagues
Pleasant personality, an ability to accept constructive criticism, and sense of humor are highly valued.

Office location: Downtown D.C. (near Farragut Square)
Salary: Depends on experience
