PROFESSIONAL TRAINING CORPS DESCRIPTION:
The Professional Training Corps was formed in 2010 to design and pilot community college based program models that can grow rapidly to serve many more young adults across the United States. These models will build on the successful practices of our core model, with a focus on innovations that allow for greater scale.
The PTC is an enterprising pathway that closely links college and employment for young adults. PTC sites reside within community colleges and provide an opportunity for full-time students to engage in meaningful workforce training and support that will result in a stackable credential that encourages college completion.
During the five years of our pilot phase, Year Up will directly serve at least 500 young adults and develop a model capable of scaling to serve 100,000 students annually while also meeting student outcome targets (including employer partner satisfaction, college graduation, job placement and long-term financial sustainability). This ambitious growth plan is a response to addressing the Nation's projected skills gap of 14 million workers by 2020. PTC programs will train young adults in industry-specific skills that will position them to tap into demand-driven opportunities that had gone unfilled regionally due to lack of a reliable pipeline of talent. PTC sites currently exist in Baltimore, MD (Baltimore City Community College) and Miami, FL (Miami Dade College - Wolfson Campus and North Campus) and Philadelphia, PA (Peirce College).
