The Society for Science & the Public Development internship is intended for people planning careers at non-profits with an interest in fundraising and is offered three times a year for at least a three-month stay within the following periods: spring (January to April), summer (May to August) and fall (September to December). Note: Applications for the summer 2015 internship are being accepted now through Friday, April 3, 2015.
Interns will work 15 hours per week at SSP's Washington, DC offices and receive a stipend of $400 every two weeks. Please send your resume and cover letter to Emily Wheland at ewheland@societyforscience.org. No phone calls please.
Interns must be current undergraduate or graduate students. Preference is given to alumni of SSP education competitions and students with an interest and participation in STEM news, research, or education. Applicants planning to receive course credit for this internship should provide any necessary information regarding requirements to SSP. One applicant will be selected.
Internship Summary: SSP's growing Development department is looking for an enthusiastic and highly organized intern to support our fundraising and donor engagement efforts.
Specific duties will be decided on based on applicant's interests and skill level at the beginning of the internship. Possible duties include:
- Research potential funders including foundations, corporations, and individuals
- Manage special projects related to donor outreach
- Create first drafts of letters of intent and other materials
- Proofread various materials including donor letters, proposals, sponsorship documents, etc.
- Format mass emails
- Assist with special event logistics
- Assist with general administrative duties
