[YEP-DC] Perry Street Prep PCS - ALL Teaching Positions (SY 2015-2016)

Do you share the belief that "a world-class education is the best anti-poverty program around"? Are you willing to go the extra mile to provide academic rigor for our scholars?

If you answered yes to these questions, we want you to join the Perry Street Prep team! We are recruiting teachers for Pre-kindergarten through 8th grade. A teaching position at Perry Street Prep is a full-time, salaried, 10-month position.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

PreK-8th grade teachers at Perry Street Prep are responsible for the following:

Curriculum and Planning
• Collaborating with colleagues in developing cohesive Common Core-aligned curriculum materials, increasing instructional resources, and establishing instructional goals
• Preparing standards-based lessons that challenge students' critical thinking and align with lesson, unit, and grade-level objectives

Instruction
• Utilizing strong content knowledge to effectively present enticing and rigorous Common Core-aligned lessons
• Differentiating instruction to accommodate multiple learning styles and abilities
• Participating in all professional development opportunities

Assessment
• Assessing students academic and developmental growth through observation and a variety of assessment methods
• Tracking and monitor assessment results in order to regularly refine teaching practices and design differentiated lesson plans

School Culture
• Applying the values of urgency, rigor, and consistency to create a positive learning environment that promotes high expectations
• Communicating with students, parents, school staff to ensure that students are on-track in their learning and making progress towards goals

Perry Street Prep is seeking educators with the following education and experience:

• Meet the Highly Qualified Teacher (HQT) requirements of the No Child Left Behind Act which include:
• PreK-Grade 5
- Bachelor's degree required.
- Passed the Elementary Praxis Content Knowledge Assessment; OR
- Passed the Early Childhood Praxis Content Knowledge Assessment (grades K-3 teachers only); OR
- Earned a minimum of 100 points on the D.C. HOUSSE Rubric for Early Childhood/Elementary teachers.

• Grades 6-8
- Bachelor's and/or Masters Degree in the core subject; OR
- Passed the appropriate Praxis Subject Test in the core subject; OR
- Hold National Board Certification in the core subject area; OR
- Have an undergraduate major or 30 credit hours in the core subject area;

Special Education Inclusion Teachers
- Hold a bachelor's degree, AND
- Preferably hold a valid District of Columbia state license.

• Two or more years of teaching experience as an elementary or middle school teacher in an urban environment preferred
