Organization Profile:

Founded in 1999, BUILD uses entrepreneurship-based, experiential learning to ignite the potential of youth in under-resourced communities and equip them for high school, college and career success. BUILD's unique program offers students a four year entrepreneurship experience designed to reinforce the Common Core, develop 21st Century Skills and motivate student engagement in school.  Starting in 9th grade, BUILD students work with their peers and community mentors to develop business ideas, pitch to funders and launch real businesses.  As they journey through high school, BUILD provides students with support in navigating the college application process and the opportunity to explore college and career options, while expanding their businesses or opting into community internships.   


BUILD currently serves over 1,500 high school students at programs located in the San Francisco Bay Area; Washington, DC; and Boston, MA and will begin operations in New York City in 2015.  Over the next ten years, BUILD will strategically expand its operations to serve at least ten regions across the country, leading more students to graduate from high school prepared for future success each year.

Position Title 1: Entrepreneurship 1 Program Manager

Reporting to the Metro DC Site Director, the Entrepreneurship 1 Program Manager (E1PM) is responsible for managing the 2015-16 program, an entrepreneurship-based learning experience facilitated in partner high schools. In order to ensure that students acquire essential skills for high school, college and career success, the E1PM will recruit, train, manage and coach BUILD instructors and mentors, ensure delivery of curriculum to meet benchmarks, plan events, implement systems to ensure students can run successful businesses, maintain strong relationships with partner high schools and utilize data to serve students and improve program.

 

 

Position Title 2: Business Program Manager

Reporting to the Site Director, the Business Program Manager is responsible for managing the 2015-16 program, an entrepreneurship-based learning experience facilitated in partner high schools.  The BPM will provide leadership, guidance, and support to over 150 sophomore and junior youth entrepreneurs, and their mentors, to successfully launch and run their businesses.  S/he will lead nightly sessions in the Youth Business Incubator, and will consult with business teams and individual students to develop college readiness skills by launching and running micro-enterprises.  S/he will work intensively with business teams as they manufacture and market their products, and will concurrently cultivate relationships with local businesses and community stakeholders to develop selling opportunities.  In order to ensure that students acquire essential skills for high school, college and career success, the BPM will collaborate alongside DC program staff members to support and coach BUILD instructors and mentors, ensure delivery of curriculum to meet benchmarks, plan events, implement systems to ensure students can run successful businesses, maintain strong relationships with partner high schools and utilize data to serve students and improve program.

 

Candidate Requirements:

·         Bachelor's Degree

·         Master's Degree in education or counseling and/or teaching credential

·         Minimum 3 years teaching experience (preferably with under-resourced youth or in under-performing schools)

·         Experience coaching teachers
