[YEP-DC] YEP-DC Event: "Share a Cup of Success: A YEP-DC Networking Series" - RSVP today!

Sign up today for YEP-DC's inaugural "Share a Cup of Success" networking event.

Time: 6:30 pm – 8:30 pm

Place: The Coupe (3415 11th St. NW, Washington, DC)

 

Our first "Share a Cup of Success" event will feature guests from the Department of Education and Capitol Hill. You're invited to come share a cup of success (i.e., get and share career advice, make new connections, share recent successes, etc. over drinks) with our featured guests and other YEP-DC members. Space will be limited to ensure all attendees have the opportunity to connect with featured guests. All attendees must RSVP.

Dorie Turner Nolt has been press secretary for the U.S. Department of Education for the last year. Prior to joining the Obama Administration, Nolt was the assistant director of communications for the Georgia Department of Education. Before joining the Dark Side, she worked for six years as the Atlanta-based national education reporter for The Associated Press, covering everything from local school board battles to national education policy issues. Nolt started her journalism career covering higher education for the Chattanooga Times Free Press after graduating from the University of Tennessee with a degree in journalism in 2001. Jeremy Ayers is the Director of Policy at Results for America/ America Achieves. He previously served as Education Policy Advisor for the U.S. House Committee on Education & the Workforce. In this role he provided legislative and policy support on K-12 issues including accountability, assessment, school improvement, education research, and oversight of ESEA waivers. Prior to joining the Committee, Jeremy was Associate Director of Federal Education Programs at the Center for American Progress, a classroom teacher in Florida, and a policy analyst for the Alliance for Excellent Education, a national high school reform organization. He got his start in education working for the Family Resource Center, a small nonprofit serving rural North Carolina children and families. Jeremy holds a master's degree from Duke University and a bachelor's degree from McMurry University in his home state of Texas.

 

Jonathan ElkinAs a Legislative Assistant in the U.S. Senate, Jon advises on education issues from early childhood and K-12 through higher education and job training, as well as on labor, arts, science, and poverty issues. Before coming to Capitol Hill in 2008, Jon taught 7th and 8th grade in the South Bronx, New York City with Teach For America. A California native, Jon has a B.A. in Public Policy from Stanford University and a Master of Science in Teaching (M.S.T.) from Pace University.
