Do you have 2 hours a week? Volunteer to help close the achievement gap.
Reading All-Stars is a volunteer reading program at Walker-Jones Education Campus, where 99% of students are from low-income families. This spring, we helped their students make 30% more reading gains than the rest of the school. We meet from 10am-noon each Saturday morning, and you'd be paired with a K-5 student who's 1-2 grade levels behind, helping them improve on targeted reading skills. No teaching experience is required: all you need is a commitment to closing the achievement gap. We are looking for more volunteers to keep up the momentum.
This Saturday - 9/27 - Sign up for our upcoming orientation
Walker-Jones Education Campus
1125 New Jersey Ave., NW
Washington, DC 20001
Metro: Mt. Vernon Square (green/yellow) or NoMA (red)
Orientation runs from 9-10am. You'll get a chance to hear about the program and training on reading tutoring. From 10am to 12pm you'll observe an existing reading pair and see the program in action firsthand.
Thanks so much for your continued commitment to kids!
Sincerely,
Jon Elkin
