[dcab-l] IBMA Week is Calling!

The countdown is on to the IBMA festivities in Raleigh! A week from now I will be finishing up one of the morning seminars at the convention and planning where-to next…

For those of you who think that the business convention is all that is going on next week, let me give you a quick look at what will be happening. Please read on down and look especially well at what goes on for FREE!

There are really three parts to IBMA week – the IBMA business conference, the Wide Open Bluegrass paid ticket festival and the Raleigh/PNC Wide Open Bluegrass free festival.

The business conference is a paid event that runs from Tues. morning through the Awards Show on Thurs. evening. It is well worth attending and I encourage you to do so – I believe there are registration spaces left.

The ticketed WOB Festival takes place in the Red Hat Amphitheater and the convention center ballroom and features the cream of the bluegrass crop – the best seats are probably gone and cost big-bucks, but it is where the big-time shows are.  See line up - https://ibma.org/world-of-bluegrass/wide-open-bluegrass/lineup

The best thing about the week is the free street festival! There are seven or so stages in the area downtown near the convention center – this replaces "Fan-Fest" if you have done that in previous years. It starts at noon on Friday and runs through 11pm Saturday night. The schedule is huge – too many names to list, but lots of the biggest names mixed in with great new and well-aged local and regional performers. https://ibma.org/press/archives/full-performance-schedule-announced-wide-open-bluegrass-streetfest   Good parking nearby for $7 (last year) a day w/return. The Trade Show in the convention center opens to the public on Thursday, I believe, and there is pickin' going on everywhere! The hotels downtown will be filled with jamming – even during the evenings early in the week. Pinecone.org has added a 5th Monday evening jam at the Busy Bee – nice venue! So the bottom line is that you just have to get to Raleigh and find some accomodations – no need to buy tickets to anything…  The only thing I would consider paying for is a pass for the "Bluegrass Ramble" – the showcases in the venues around downtown – if you come in early in the week. The Ramble runs every evening….  https://ibma.org/world-of-bluegrass/bluegrass-ramble  $60 IBMA members/$75 others – I believe they are purchased at the registration desk in the convention center.

It will be a party not-to-be-missed – hoping to see you all there!
