The Grassroots Education Project empowers communities to serve schools and improve outcomes. Since 2009, we've been connecting residents to opportunities to serve at their neighborhood elementary school. At Tubman Elementary, our pilot school, we established a reading tutoring program at the principal's request, volunteering 16,500 one-on-one tutoring hours between 2009 and 2012. During that period, Tubman saw the second highest gains in reading proficiency among all DCPS schools, with students in our Reading All-Stars program twice as likely to become proficient in reading as their peers. We're currently finishing up the first year of a second partnership at Walker-Jones Education Campus. Your support will help us improve and expand our partnerships, engaging community members in improving outcomes at their neighborhood schools.
