-- K-12 Engagement Manager
Location: Washington, DC
The Education Delivery Institute (EDI) is an innovative nonprofit organization that supports public education leaders to implement school reforms at scale. Our ultimate purpose is to help these leaders to graduate more students with meaningful high school diplomas and college degrees and to close achievement gaps for good.
Reporting to the K-12 Director, a K-12 Engagement Manager leads EDI's partnerships with states, districts, and schools and serves as a dedicated coach, problem-solver, and relationship manager with senior leaders. He/she uses EDI's proven approach to support leaders' implementation efforts.
Organization Summary
EDI partners with K-12 and higher education leaders with ambitious reform agendas and invests in their capacity to deliver results. By employing an approach known as delivery, a proven methodology for effective implementation in the public sector, we help leaders maintain the necessary focus to plan and drive reform.
EDI was launched in May 2010 by The Education Trust and Achieve. Sir Michael Barber, former head of the U.K. Prime Minister's Delivery Unit and creator of the delivery approach, is a founding leader who provides continuing guidance. Kathy Cox, former State Superintendent of Georgia, serves as CEO. For additional information on EDI, visit http://www.deliveryinstitute.org/.
Major Responsibilities
The K-12 Engagement Manager builds the capacity of education leaders as they use the tools of the delivery approach to achieve system goals, with the eventual aim of sustaining this approach without significant EDI support.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Establishing delivery plans, performance management routines, and capacity building of key staff in states, districts and schools to achieve student outcome goals
- Working with leaders to define their goals for students and review existing implementation capacity to achieve them
- Helping leaders to design and establish a small team – known as a delivery unit – that is focused on driving achievement of aspirations
- Building the capacity of the delivery unit through formal training, role modeling, and feedback and coaching.
- Helping the delivery unit and leaders to establish strategies, plans, metrics, and targets to measure performance against benchmarks
- Establishing delivery routines - evidence-based performance dialogues that allow education leaders to identify and address problems early
- Building the capacity of key staff to sustain the work after EDI's support has ended
- Applying delivery principles to specific priority education reforms (e.g., college and career ready standards, new educator effectiveness systems) to improve the effectiveness of implementation, in partnership with EDI clients (through networks and individual engagements with partners)
- Supporting a network of delivery practitioners across the country through network activities (e.g., convenings, webinars) and identifying and developing promising delivery practices and tools
- Supporting an organizational culture of continuous learning within EDI that includes contribution to our professional learning program, coaching and mentoring of colleagues, and contribution to office activities
- Supporting EDI's pipeline of engagements, including business development and contract management for assigned projects
Engagement managers are expected to travel for at least 40% of their time.

- Commitment to EDI's mission of improving student outcomes and closing achievement gaps, and willingness to do what it takes to achieve it
