[YEP-DC] Job Posting: Staff Assistant at See Forever Foundation/Maya Angelou Schools

The See Forever Foundation in Washington D.C. is seeking a Staff Assistant to support its executive team. The Foundation operates the Maya Angelou Public Charter Schools and Maya Angelou Academy, a nationally recognized network of alternative schools in the DC area.

Major Duties and Responsibilities

Reporting to the Operations & Finance Manager, the Staff Assistant is responsible for supporting the Chief Executive Officer, Chief Operating Officer, Chief Academic Officer, and Chief Development Officer in a wide variety of administrative, logistical, fundraising, and event-planning tasks.  

The Staff Assistant's responsibilities include:

  • Scheduling appointments and meetings, coordinating travel, and providing other administrative support to the executive team in order to advance See Forever's mission;
  • Answering phones and greeting guests, including parents and students, directing them to the appropriate staff member and taking accurate messages where needed;
  • Managing a complex flow of documents in and out of the organization's central office, including preparing outgoing mail, faxes, and other communications and maintaining filing systems;
  • Assisting the development and communications team with researching grant opportunities, drafting press releases and flyers, and supporting fundraising campaigns;
  • Helping with the planning and execution of events, from graduations to teacher roundtables to large fundraisers;
  • Supporting the human resources team with a wide range of processes, including data collection and analysis, maintaining staff directories, and assisting with interviews;
  • Scheduling disciplinary appeals and assisting the Chief Academic Officer with records collection and storage;
  • Attending and assisting with community events and presentations;
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Ideal candidates should have:

  • A bachelor's degree and a strong academic record;
  • An eye for detail, as well as highly effective data entry and copyediting skills;
  • Desire and ability to work with a wide range of people, from interns to senior executives;
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and with minimal supervision, setting priorities to complete multiple projects accurately and on time;
  • Strong skills with Microsoft Office, especially Word and Outlook;
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills;
  • Comfort with working in a fast-paced, non-profit environment; and
  • Desire to serve and work with diverse populations, especially urban youth. 

In addition, candidates should possess an unyielding belief that with the appropriate supports, coupled with high expectations, all students can significantly improve their academic and workforce skills, and can develop pro-social and culturally normative behaviors that will enable them to succeed in the workplace, post-secondary education, and beyond.

Salary and Benefits
