ReThink Expression
Saturday, April 6, 2013
10 am–1:30 pm
Do you want to encourage free and constructive expression in your classroom? Using Barbara Kruger's "Belief + Doubt = Sanity" as inspiration, you will learn to use spoken word and slam poetry to explore how language and performance can strengthen classroom environments. This workshop will be led by Nick Courtney, an international award-winning educator. As a high school teacher in Texas and Hawaii, Courtney used spoken word and slam poetry to build student engagement while developing literacy skills. An active slam poet, Courtney won third place at the International Forensics Association for poetry speaking in Buenos Aires. He currently works as a Manager of Teacher Leadership Development for Teach For America, Philadelphia.
Free tickets for the Busboys and Poets Belief+Doubt Poetry Showcase at the Hirshhorn included for all workshop participants!Register Now
