Share My Lesson provides over 250,000 lesson plans and classroom resources online, while hosting a broad professional learning community for interaction and support. With the advent of the Common Core State Standards, teachers need more support than ever to assist them in being as effective as possible.

 Share My Lesson is a joint venture of the American Federation of Teachers, a 1.7M member association of professional educators, and TSL Education, a British digital publishing company, creator of TES Connect, a global education resources sharing site boasting over 2.5MM subscribers.  As a start-up, the organization is financially backed by the two founding organizations and relies heavily on in-kind contributions of employees from each.

Basic Scope & Primary Objectives

The unique nature of Share My Lesson creates broad press and media interest that can be leveraged into subscriber growth.  Share My Lesson needs a qualified public relations professional to harness media interest and turn it into subscriber and user activity growth.  As the PR leader, you'll develop Share My Lesson's media strategy and execute its implementation.

 Reporting to the EVP of Share My Lesson, you will be working alongside a small team of marketing colleagues who can frequently collaborate on projects and share in the general work of promoting Share My Lesson. We are looking for a talented public relations associate who can share our story.

Key Responsibilities

  • ·         Writes and disseminates press releases for local newspapers, trade press, and the education newswire
  • ·         Develops OpEd articles with affiliates, partners and teachers for placement in local and national newspapers and key publications
  • ·         Develops infographics for blogs, trade press, and other media
  • ·         Develops media scripts for videos, viral videos, and other interactive media
  • ·         Manages a virtual press room which provides content for Affiliate newsletters and email marketing.
  • ·         Drives social media strategy, with support from our Digital Marketing Manager

 

Essential Skills/Qualifications

 Understanding of K-12 education in the US.

  • 5 or more years of progressively responsible experience in public relations.
  • Highly productive writer, able to constantly create new content.
  • Demonstrable excellent writing and proof reading skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Initiative to drive things forward.
  • Ability to work at a fast pace in a high pressure environment.
  • Knowledge of standard office equipment and computer proficiency in Microsoft Office.

Experience

  • 5 or more years of progressively responsible experience in public relations.
  • Experience in developing media plans.
