Just beware the long flight of stairs where the MBT ends at L St NE...I took a nasty spill there the first time I went that way. Randy

Thanks everyone! I'm embarrassed to say I haven't been on the MBT trail, but I'll check that out, and the other suggested routes, soon. On Wed, Mar 27, 2013 at 9:52 AM, John Salatti <john.salatti@gmail.com> wrote: Sounds like a good option to me.
Thanks, Dean
Sent on the run just for you!
I always take 1st down past NY, take a right on K, and a left on 4th. Coming back I would recommend the reverse - 4th to K, right on K to 1st, and left on 1st to come back up the hill. A bit quieter that way than using new jersey. - Dean On Wed, Mar 27, 2013 at 9:35 AM, John Salatti <john.salatti@gmail.com> wrote: Patrick,
When I want to bike down that way, I take 2nd to Florida, Florida to 3rd, 3rd to NJ. Once you cross NY Ave. NJ is pretty easy to bike. I've also take 1st down to I and I to NJ.
As for bike lanes, perhaps propose a resolution to the BCA to have councilmembers McDuffie (Ward 5), Wells (Ward 6), Grosso (lives in Ward 5), and Orange (lives in Ward 5) request that DDOT recommend a north-south bike lane.
Also, if you are willing to go over to 7th NW (I assume from your email), consider R Street to the MBT at 5th NE. Great views of the Capitol and a pretty good route to Cap Hill.
John Sent on the run just for you! All,
I'd appreciate your views on something. I feel like it's tough to bike from Bloomingdale down to the Capitol, because North Cap is a super highway that can't be used by bikes, and there is no direct, easy-to-ride street that runs straight down. The best I've found is to bike to 7th and then backtrack.
I''ve wondered if someone has - or should - propose some sort of bikelane somewhere that would improve our connections to the south. It seems unfortunate to be able to see the Capitol but have such difficulty getting to it without being in a car or bus. But, I'm not sure if this is feasible or I'm off-base or just unaware of a good route.
Anyone have any thoughts on that?
