[YEP-DC] Temporary, part-time Communications role at DC Public Charter School Board

The DC Public Charter School Board (PCSB) is setting a national model for creating quality public school options that is leading the transformation of public education in the nation's capital. Summary of the TEMPORARY Job:  

In this temporary position, the Associate will be responsible for creating and maintaining PCSB's multimedia and digital content on its website, multimedia/social media channels, and editorial publications. The position requires a minimum of 15 hours a week, and no more than 30. The Associate will be expected to work out of PCSB's office in Columbia Heights. The position reports to the Director of Communications, while working with PCSB executive leadership, staff, DC public charter schools, DC education and government agencies, charter support organizations and others to get our messages out clearly and effectively. 

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

   Updates website content and promotes new site content on social networks

   Consistently posts to PCSBlog a minimum of three times a week.

   Manage social media accounts (Flickr, YouTube, Facebook, Twitter, etc.)

   Live-tweet PCSB public events, including monthly evening board meetings.

   Curates PCSB Media clips, a daily roundup of local and national charter and education coverage.

   Compiles, edits and publishes Tuesday Bulletin, PCSB's weekly e-newsletter to DC charter schools.

   Assists in revising and copyediting content developed by other PCSB departments prior to publication.

   Maintains up-to-date subscriber lists.

   Manages communications department platforms (VOCUS, iContact) and email accounts.

   Other duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications, Experience and Qualities

   Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university (Master's Degree optional)

   2-5 years of relevant experience in digital communications and social media, preferably in education, non-profit or issue/cause-related field.

   Digital experience (HTML and open-source CMS such as Wordpress or Drupal).

   Familiarity with using social media tools and emerging platforms to promote a cause or campaign.

   Experience with digital and social media management and measurement tools and analytics.

   Exceptional writing and editing skills, with an ability to synthesize complex topics for multiple audiences and mediums.

   Attention to detail - experience with AP Stylebook and/or Chicago Manual of Style a plus – while maintaining focus on bigger messaging picture.

   Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google applications required;

   Enthusiasm and willingness to take direction, collaborate and work as part of a team, and incorporate peer and manager feedback.

   Outstanding judgment required to manage multiple tasks/activities simultaneously while meeting deadlines and maintaining quality.

   Flexibility, creativity, proactive communications approach and sense of humor required.

   Clear understanding and commitment to PCSB's mission and vision.

Compensation: 
Salary for this position is $20-25 an hour not to exceed 30 hours per week.
