LAYC Bard College Volunteer Childcare Assistant


Position Description:

The Volunteer child care assistant is responsible for the smooth and effective delivery of child care assistance to participants of the Bard College-Clemente course. The Bard College program at LAYC offers college level humanities courses to individuals ranging in ages from 18-55. Classes are held in the community room at LAYC two evenings a week. It is yearlong study of five courses in the humanities, those who do well will successfully earn 6 college credits in the humanities from Bard College.



The successful candidate must meet the following requirements:

·         Must read, write, and understand written directions

·         Must be 18 years of age or older with High School diploma or GED

·         Must successfully pass a background check

·         Previous work experience in a child care center is preferred


Principal Activities

·         Maintain safety of children by appropriately supervising children at all times during class period

·         Be responsible for implementing age-appropriate techniques relative to the discipline, guidance, and management of children.

·         Document and respond to all participant incidents and notify program staff

·         Communicate with program staff when essential supplies (including first aid equipment) require replenishment.

·         Represent LAYC by developing positive relationships with program participants, children, and program staff



Physical Requirements:

·         While performing job duties, volunteer will be required to sit, stand, walk, reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel or bend. Child Assistant will supervise approximately 2-5 children during class time.



Compensation

·         This is a volunteer position.
