[dcab-l] Beginners' banjo workshop on Saturday, October 27 in Manassas (3-5 pm).

A reminder that the Bull Run Bluegrass Music Assn. is sponsoring, along with NOVA Music Center of Manassas, a workshop for beginning banjo pickers on October 27 in the afternoon (3:00 to 5:00 pm).

This is a community service open to all. NOVA Music Center is generously providing the venue and the instructors (Bruce Gair and Amy Tobias) are volunteering their time. The workshop is free.  There is a materials charge of $5 for kids under 18 and $10 for adults covering the cost of printed handouts.  Yes, you may record.

This is basic, basic, basic. If you are just opening the banjo case for the first (or second) time or have not picked for a while, this is the workshop for you.  If you can pick just a couple of tunes or have a billion questions, this is the workshop for you.

This is "hands on" from the git go.  No lectures -  just picking with a little explanation as needed. Bring your banjo, your picks, your patience and your tuner if you have one. Come 15 minutes early to meet folks and tune up.

Where? NOVA Music Center,  8963 Center St., Manassas, VA (East end of Old Town Manassas).  Let us know you are coming! Call NOVA Music at 703-830-7141.

If you do not have a banjo, Bruce has three extra banjos he will let participants use on a first call, first served basis. Call Bruce at 703-407-2327 to reserve one.

By the way, there will be a "Basics of Bluegrass" workshop also sponsored by NOVA Music and the Bull Run Association along the same lines as this workshop.  It will be held a week later on November 3 for all standard bluegrass instruments.  Two hours of how to participate in Bluegrass music. All talent levels included.

Hope to see you there,

Erich Robbins, NOVA Music Center

Bruce Gair, Bull Run Bluegrass Music Assn.

Amy Tobias, Gettin' There Picker
