Five years ago, 11 friends and colleagues from different classes of the Georgetown Juvenile Justice Clinic started discussing over pizza and beer what it would look like to positively change the way we treat our youth in this city. Out of those discussions came the three founding principles of DC Lawyers for Youth: 1) The best way to improve the juvenile justice system is to make sure youth are not pushed into it in the first place; 2) All court-involved youth deserve quality, holistic, and effective repre sentation; and 3) All court-involved youth deserve quality wrap around services to help them get back on track. The last five years have been an incredible experience as we transitioned from exploratory meetings to an all-volunteer organization to our first grants, paid staff, and an office. This transition could not have occurred without your generous support. As a supporter of DCLY, we would like to invite you to celebrate our fifth birthday with us on October 24, 2012 at 7 PM at the Darlington House in Dupont Circle. Tickets are $50 per person which nets you two hours of open bar, passed hor d'oeuvres, some good music, and mostly the opportunity to celebrate your part in our work. Contributions are tax deductible. Buy tickets here: http:// |
