Subject: NEBG: Bluegrass Bluesman: Josh Graves Memoir
Fred Bartenstein has recently edited a wonderful memoir of the musical life
of Burkett "Josh" Graves. As most of this audience knows, Josh was the
"uncle" of bluegrass dobro, and anyone playing the instrument today owes
him tribute. At the encouragement of bandmates Lester Flatt and Earl
Scruggs, Josh added more fuel to the already revolutionary fire that the
Foggy Mountain Boys brought to bluegrass music.
Through Fred's light touch with numerous recorded interviews and scrap
books, Josh relates his take on like on the road, the music business, and
the dynamics and personalities of the Foggy Mountain Boys and other
performers in the early country music circuit. A great read.
