[YEP-DC] Exciting Career Opportunities at District of Columbia Public Schools!

Exciting Career Opportunities at District of Columbia Public Schools:

We are looking for highly motivated and skilled talent to join our team at District of Columbia Public Schools (DCPS). We seek individuals who are passionate about transforming the DC school system and making a significant difference in the lives of public school students, parents, principals, teachers, and Central Office employees.

A listing of all open positions in the DCPS Central Office can be found at the DCPS Careers "Support Our Schools" page.

Below are just a few of the exciting job opportunities at DCPS that will have a tangible impact on our students:

Coordinator, Central Office Effectiveness

As DCPS moves into the next phase of its human capital reform agenda, the time is ripe for DCPS to focus on the Central Office staff that work in the headquarters building, support DC schools, and help to ensure that all DCPS students receive a world-class education that prepares them for college, career, and life. The work of the newly created Central Office Effectiveness division will parallel that of the Teacher Effectiveness and Principal Effectiveness divisions, and will touch on the entire human capital management cycle for approximately 600 Central Office employees.

The Coordinator, Central Office Effectiveness will support the team's mission to improve various human capital processes.  This Coordinator will begin by supporting the team's efforts to redesign the current compensation and classification process for all Central Office employees.  This comprehensive redesign will deal with issues such as how Central Office employees' jobs are classified, how employees are compensated, and a career ladder/promotions policy that clearly articulates how we develop the potential of our top employees.  The other immediate focus of this role is the improvement of communications and morale-boosting activities across Central Office, which will include planning and executing fun events that bring people together and also enhance understanding of key work streams across DCPS.  The Coordinator will also support the design of a new performance evaluation system that will be simple, transparent and encourage honest and structured dialogue between managers and employees.  Additional potential projects include: enhancing the current onboarding process, developing an exit interview process, and designing retention approaches to ensure we keep our very best talent.

STEM Professional Learning Designer

Professional development is a top priority for the Chancellor and is integral to her plan for having a highly effective teacher in every DCPS classroom.  Beginning in the 2011-2012 school year, DCPS has been implementing a research-based coaching model, ensuring that teachers receive targeted, ongoing job-embedded support.  Furthermore, all district-wide professional development in support of the academic plan will be created by experts in professional development design.  We believe that creating effective learning experiences for adults requires a unique set of skills.  This new position reflects that belief and the value we put on outstanding professional development for our teachers.  The STEM Professional Learning Designer is charged with providing our teachers with the learning they need to ensure that all DCPS children build a strong foundation in math literacy, science literacy, and problem-solving skills.

Over the next two years, DCPS will continue its aggressive roll-out of the Common Core State Standards.  The STEM Professional Learning Designer is at the center of this work.  The STEM Professional Learning Designer will design and implement professional development experiences for teachers, as well as instructional superintendents, school leaders, master educators, and instructional coaches to address the new K-12 Math standards and the instructional practices DCPS has determined will most effectively enable students to master the new standards.  In addition, the STEM Professional Learning Designer will set a cohesive strategy for and coordinate district-wide professional development experiences for secondary Science teachers.
