Bluegrassers:
Let's follow "Long Black Veil" with an original guitar and voice
composition from a local songwriter, Phyllis Alden, who, like me
in the 80s, lived in
Phyllis was a prolific songwriter, and I served as her lead guitarist
and harmony singer. Geff King would sometimes play bass with us;
she and Geff would also appear together as a duet.
Geff contacted me after he received the email for "Long Black Veil"
(which looked ahead to "Anyway") and wrote:

I recorded this song at Micah Solomon's "Oasis Studios" in
Before turning to bluegrass, I began playing music on a classical
guitar, and did that for 5 years; right hand technique was helpful as
I moved on to banjo and bass guitar, and the upright.
On this cut, entitled "Anyway", I am playing a beautiful old Ramirez
classical, loaned to me by another player in
a handcrafted "Pimentel", made in
stolen… ouch!).
This is lush and lovely song; I accompanied myself on the Ramirez
classical and was able to produce tons of acoustic guitar bass. I hope
the timing, touch, and tone of the Ramirez matches the pathos of this
