[dcab-l] Original Love Song: "Anyway"

Bluegrassers:

Let's follow "Long Black Veil" with an original guitar and voice

composition from a local songwriter, Phyllis Alden, who, like me

in the 80s, lived in Takoma Park, a real hotbed of local music.

Phyllis was a prolific songwriter, and I served as her lead guitarist

and harmony singer. Geff King would sometimes play bass with us;

she and Geff would also appear together as a duet.

Geff contacted me after he received the email for "Long Black Veil"

(which looked ahead to "Anyway") and wrote:

Can't wait to hear the Phyllis Alden tune (she is an old friend, and my

neighbor here in Greenbelt for a time). Not enough of her songs get done.

I recorded this song at Micah Solomon's "Oasis Studios" in

College Park, Md.

Before turning to bluegrass, I began playing music on a classical

guitar, and did that for 5 years; right hand technique was helpful as

I moved on to banjo and bass guitar, and the upright.

On this cut, entitled  "Anyway", I am playing a beautiful old Ramirez

classical, loaned to me by another player in Takoma Park. (I had owned

a handcrafted "Pimentel", made in New Mexico, but that lady was

stolen… ouch!).

This is lush and lovely song; I  accompanied myself on the Ramirez

classical and was able to produce tons of acoustic guitar bass.  I hope

the timing, touch, and tone of the Ramirez matches the pathos of this

heart wrenching original by Phyllis Alden. To listen, just click the URL

As always, try headphones!   And yes, I arrange all these songs.
